According to this article the Fire are close to a deal with former Chivas midfielder Ramon Morales.
Morales has been a rumored name for over a year. He played last in FMF with Estudiantes and had his season cut short due to injury. He’s 35, usually plays on the left side, and recently had surgery according to the article. If he’s available at a decent price he may warrant a spot but I’m not particularly excited about him either.
“I’m very happy that a coach with the quality of Carlos De Los Cobos has noticed me. I’m very grateful there may be an opportunity to keep playing.”, said Morales.
“After some time without playing and an injury, I’m very motivated that quality people like Carlos and the Chicago Fire are interested. It encourages and motivates me.”
“I don’t think I’ll have any problems, they know my siutation with the operation and everything. If that was a concern I’m sure we could get together and resolve it. Chicago is a city I really liked.”
From DLC…”It was very good to talk to him again and while there’s nothing official we are interested in getting something done with Ramon”.
Last January rumors swirled that Morales and Fire were close to a contract but nothing materialized. At this point, Morales seems to be a player who has seen better days and has run out of options in Mexico. An invite to camp in lieu of a guaranteed contract would probably be a wise move.
A closer look at the story dated December 22, 2010 shows that the comments on the piece were made in March 2010. It appears that the historically unreliable press south of the border has struck again and this is a rehashed rumor that is no longer relevant. Hopefully.
