About

I'm a writer of historical and contemporary Young Adult fiction and screenplays. I especially love writing for teens, probably because it was those high school years when I truly discovered literature and the power of a good book. Born in Chicago, I now live in Elk Grove Village with my husband, Tom, our three cats, and our English Bulldog, Spike. I attended NIU, taught special education at the primary level, worked a dozen years in business, and eventually turned my interests toward writing. When I'm not at my desk, I love to take long walks and listen to audiobooks, garden, watch movies, read (real paperbacks, not the audio stuff), and travel. My husband and I created a Bucket List together and we're on a mission to tick off each and every item on that list while we're still young enough to enjoy life.

As for my fascination with all things Eastland, it stems back to my family's personal connection to the disaster. My paternal Grandma Manseau had a ticket to that 1915 event. The night before the outing, my Great-Grandma Savageau had a premonition of danger and death, and begged my grandmother not to go. Grandma Manseau listened to her mother and remained safely at home, and for that, I'm eternally grateful. That one, weird twist of fate brought me to this point in my life. Though I'd heard this premonition tale as a child, it wasn't until I'd grown into a full-fledged writer that I had the idea of researching the Eastland disaster for a possible novel. From my first moments of study, I was hooked. The story is fascinating, and heartbreaking, and intriguing all at the same time. I've immersed myself in the subject ever since. And though my novel, Eastland, is written and published, I still can't tear myself away from this story. The SS Eastland boat disaster of 1915 has become part of my everyday life, and I look forward to sharing my passion for Chicago's greatest loss-of-life tragedy with you.

Please feel free to contact me with your own Eastland stories. I'd love to hear from you.
