It is no surprise that 2016 stole many of our beloved artists, but being the positive person I am, 2016 also introduced some heroes. So I decided to highlight some of those that have made a difference this year (by the way, Happy 2017 everyone, sorry for going back right now)!
Fashion models; you immediately think of a super skinny, super tall, glamorzilla. This year, Ashley Graham completely changed that image! She showed everyone that curves are IN! With her ever growing presence in the fashion world, her cover on Sports Illustrated (first ever plus-size in history on there) and her killer instagram profile; Ashley is making waves in the fashion world, not to mention the entire world.
This body activist stated “Girls who are insecure about their bodies, girls who feel fat, girls who have cellulite, girls who have stretch marks on their body — those are all the things that I had as a kid and I never had a woman like me growing up to look at,” Graham stated. “I had my mother and that’s one thing, but to have somebody who has cellulite, who has things that jiggle, who has back fat and talk about how you can be an overcomer and not let society take you down for all of that. That’s real.”
Her body positive image is a breathe of fresh air and take it from me, it is nice to see someone gracing the magazines and fashion shows that has some kind of meat on them. Ashley, keep strutting your stuff on that catwalk and showing the world that real women can be sexy!!!!!
If you are a fan of The Walking Dead, then you know who Alanna Masterson is. She plays Tara, a beloved character on the show that recently dealt with her girlfriend being killed (oops, spoiler.) But that is not the reason on why she’s on this list, nope it is her private life that has impacted the year. She is a new mother, having a little girl Marlowe and she proudly displays her daughter on her instagram. Also, she has proudly shown her new mommy body, which we had no idea celebrities knew what a mommy body looked like! Unlike every other celebrity out there, she didn’t lose her weight overnight, instead she defends it (don’t know why anyone has to defend their bodies to trolls out there).
She wrote on her instagram along with a photo of her daughter “lucytwobows Dear Instagram trolls, body shamers, and the men and woman who think it’s ok to comment on my weight: I hope that you don’t have children. And if you do, I hope you teach them about kindness and acceptance. I hope they learn that it isn’t ok to make fun of people or call people names. I hope one day YOU learn what it takes to be a parent. A kind, selfless parent. A working parent. A parent that puts themselves in someone else’s shoes. Maybe you can’t get it through your thick fucking skull, but nursing a baby for a year (and pumping in a van between takes, in the dead of summer in Georgia) is a lot of work, determination, and scheduling. So before you decide to make a comment about my chest being “too large” or how “fat” I’ve become, just know that this little girl got the best start to life. I wouldn’t have changed it for a second. I would’ve gladly continued to eat enough calories to produce milk for her little bones to grow. Also, grow the fuck up. Your mother should be ashamed for raising such a judgmental bully. I’m sure she knows how “courageous” you must be for trolling and hiding behind your Iphone and computers. P.s. I would LOVE to see any man or woman give birth to a baby, nurse the baby, and then work 17 hour days and NAIL their own stunts. P.s.s. Be kind to each other. We need it now more than ever. ❤️✌
Refreshing to see a star that prioritizes her child over looks! Mommyhood to the highest!!!
