Nike Get Fly Relay Event – Wednesday, August 28th
Twenty-five teams made up of Chicago runners will be competing in a 4 x 1-mile relay event on the track at Chicago Ave and Lakeshore Drive. These teams, one of which includes yours truly, have been training since the beginning of August. We all ran a timed mile during the first week of August and then had the opportunity to win a speed-focused personal training session. My team won the first session and we learned how to increase both our mechanical and our chemical speed. Combining these moves with Nike Chicago-provided speed workouts means hopefully we’ve all gotten faster! Come on out on Wednesday and see who wins the battle of getting the most fly in one month.
Mad Dash to Madison 5K – Monday, September 16th
Attention Chicago Blackhawks fans! The Mad Dash to Madison 5K starts at 6:30 PM on Monday, September 16th. This race also features a rollerblade option for those of you who prefer to do your moving on skates. Since I live in the West Loop I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to attend. In running shoes, though. Not on skates.
When else are you encouraged to run in a German-themed costume? I’ll be there in a Dirndl-themed shirt with the Wurst Running Club Ever (aka some of my friends). Look for us in matching outfits.
Chicago Marathon Volunteering – Sunday, October 13th
It’s once again time for Chicago Marathon volunteer sign-ups! As always, the Oak Park Runners Club will be there at mile 18 (aka Aid Station 13) handing out water and Gatorade to 40,000 runners. We need TONS of volunteers to get this done so join me for an amazing day.
