It’s a gorgeous late spring day that promises ideal temperatures for an early evening ride. If you were already planning to get out and pedal, why not join tonight’s Ride of Silence?
Chances are good that you will find a ride location close to where you live or work. There is no cost to participate. Just show up, line up, and show your support for bicycling’s fallen by riding silently for 6 – 8 miles.
Here are a few of my past write-ups on ROS:
And a poem by Mike Murgas featured on the Ride of Silence website:
Tonight we number many but ride as one
In honor of those not with us, friends, mothers, fathers, sisters, sons
With helmets on tight and heads down low,
We ride in silence, cautious and slow
The wheels start spinning in the lead pack
But tonight we ride and no one attacks
The dark sunglasses cover our tears
Remembering those we held so dear
Tonight’s ride is to make others aware
The road is there for all to share
To those not with us or by our side,
May God be your partner on your final ride
Keep riding and be safe!
