Nissan Juke: quirky or ugly?

Seriously … Tell me what you think. Is it a bullfrog or a crouching tiger waiting to pounce? The all-new Nissan Juke is certainly unusual, and it invariably incites a visceral response. What’s yours. Do you love it? Hate it? Would you buy it?

  • I have the feeling that this is like the original rationale for Scion--ADD affected 20 somethings are not buying their parents' generation Corollas and Sentras, so the manufacturers have to come up with something for them. Maybe Nissan, having the most extreme examples (throw in the Cube and Versa), succeeded.

Of course, my nephew, being in that generation, will have nothing less than a Cadillac CTS,

BTW, are you no longer with STMG?

  • In reply to jack:

hi jack ...oddly lots of older people tend toward these quirky vehicles as well because they also have a higher sit height and easier egress/ingress ... and no, not at stmg any more. left a couple years ago. you can find my long-form reviews on if you're interested ....

  • In reply to Jill Ciminillo:

They said that's why the Honda Element is no more. It was designed for surfers but ended up a convenient SUV type vehicle for older people. In fact, once my Accord is done, I was thinking about getting one, except it won't be around in the 6 or so years I hope still elapse before then.

I do remember when you did a review in the Pioneer Press of a large SUV and compared it to its humongous sibling. I don't remember the brand, but I remember that one could not make out your face in the pictures next to the hatch of either. So, there does seem to be a use for a utility vehicle of manageable size.

  • In reply to jack:

ah, jack -- great memory! it was probably the h3 ... and i would have been comparing it to the h2. the spare tires in those gargantuan vehicles weigh more than i do! and neither of them fit in my garage. but yes, utilitarian vehicles of a manageable size are definitely worth having. that's why i did like the juke ... even if it was a bit, um, unusual looking.

  • I liked the Juke commercials with Brett Erlich of Infomania in them.

  • In reply to gpldan:

hi, gpldan ... nissan does a great job with their juke commercials! Very creative team ....
