We all knew that Duncan’s mom had a lifelong commitment to education but for years now there hasn’t been that much beyond a few tempting details. Now the Tribune has a profile and some great pictures to go along with them: “For nearly 50 years, the mother of U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan has run an after-school tutoring project out of church basements on the South Side. Her work helped thousands of kids from Chicago’s poorest neighborhoods, and inspired Arne to pursue a career in education. Now, at 75-years-old, she still makes her way to the tutoring center four days a week. She remains deeply committed, she says, because she wants to repay the kindness of the African-American nanny who took care of her when she was young.” (Sue Duncan’s life-long dedication to education)

If Arne truly wanted to go into Education, he would have studied for a teaching certificate. It is rumored he has a degree in Sociology.
