“Greenery” is Pantone’s color for 2017! Each year Pantone chooses a (random?) color for Interiors, Fashion, and Graphic Design and this bright green shade is “IT” for next year. I think it was selected to move away from the gray tones that have been rather dominant for interiors for a while, partly because no one’s ready for all those browns from the 2000’s and, before that the late 60’s.
How will we use it? Well, it’s a good accent color that brightens up grays and beiges and off whites from barely blues and pale, pale yellows to the lightest pinks. It adds pizzazz to accents in royal and turquoise, and even “hot pink” and can be quite sophisticated next to gray. Pantone has combined it with their pastel lavender/blue and very pale pink that were last year’s colors But, realistically, this only works as a possible color palette in the graphics world—not interiors!
For just the past few years, Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore paint companies also chose fashion colors for the following year and this Pantone cheerful green is quite apart from either of their selections: “Poised Taupe” and “Shadow”. I think that combining the three colors together might actually be interesting… I’ll ponder that option.
