"The Chicago Teachers Union is a national disgrace."

Chicago Teachers Union President Jesse Sharkey who is NOT the boss of Chicago Public Schools. (John J. Kim / Chicago Tribune)

I wrote that in December, 2020, not thinking that two years later, the Chicago Teachers Unions would still be disgracing itself and screwing parents and children with its ridiculous demands.

The CTU has elevated me-firstism to new heights, exposing itself to unprecedented national loathing. Well, not for viewers of national media news that have pretty much ignored this outrage.

Infamously, the CTU said back then, as I wrote:

This is the @CTULocal1 that tweeted (since taken down),“The push to reopen schools is rooted in sexism, racism and misogyny.” If anything is sexist and racist, it’s the CTU union whose fight to keep children out of the classroom falls heaviest on minorities, impoverished and others that science demonstrates are most damaged by remote instruction.

So now, the union has closed public schools for the third day, and as of this writing, who knows how long this will last. There needs to be a deep investigation if there is a way to decertify the CTU, to break its death grip on Chicago.

Meanwhile, what’s needed is a tidal wave of parental outrage that will lead to the creation of more charter schools–their number is capped at the insistence of the CTU. Even better, the creation of vouchers that will allow parents to send their children to schools–public or private–of their choice.

The decision in the hands of the Illinois Legislature, controlled by Democrats who are controlled by the public employee unions, especially the CTU. I fear that only prayers to a righteous God will budge the cowardly lawmakers.

  • The union has brainwashed half the parents into backing CTU. The other half are probably looking at private schools. My old Catholic school has had many more public school high schoolers take the admission test. Usual CPS story, fewer students, more and more money. What is it, $27,000 per student vs half that in private school? For a better, safer, in person education?

  • only a government monopoly could keep collecting money and provide no service and always want more money to do nothing....The Educational/Industrial Complex is a job program for adults: teachers, unions, administrators, contractors...any transfer of knowledge is unplanned and unexpected

  • No private company would put up with these union antics. The city has the option of dismissing teachers who support an illegal strike, and could easily start a campaign to decertify the union. But I suspect the school system and the city do not know how to do that. Actually bargaining with a union, as private companies do, is outside their experience.

  • Dennis, what is your response to the following:

"Anna Fusco, president of the Broward Teachers Union in Broward County, Fla., the second largest school district in the state, appeared on Don Lemon Tonight Monday where she called out Gov. Ron DeSantis for declining to apply for billions of dollars in funding for schools as part of President Biden’s American Rescue Plan." Yahoo News, October 21, 2021

  • In reply to Aquinas wired:

Citation? Other than a teachers union official?

  • In reply to Dennis Byrne:

    So you have no response?

  • In reply to Aquinas wired:

I want to know what she is talking about. I hadn’t heard this before and I can’t find any other reference to this claim.

  • And this is relevant to CTU, Chicago, and Jesse Sharkey, how? If you’re so obsessed with FL, move there like thousands of others. Oops, FL Republicans outnumber Democrats, you’re safer in IL, Land of Public Employees.
