FBI finds scant evidence Jan. 6 was coordinated. MSNBC host: It's bad news for Trump

Mehdi Hasan (MSNBC)

Reuters reported exclusively:

WASHINGTON, Aug 20 (Reuters) – The FBI has found scant evidence that the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol was the result of an organized plot to overturn the presidential election result, according to four current and former law enforcement officials.

Though federal officials have arrested more than 570 alleged participants, the FBI at this point believes the violence was not centrally coordinated by far-right groups or prominent supporters of then-President Donald Trump, according to the sources, who have been either directly involved in or briefed regularly on the wide-ranging investigations.

In other words, the Democratic/liberal/progressive narrative that former President Donald Trump coordinated the attack with his supporters or far-right groups, is not supported by the evidence.

Most people would consider that to be neutral or good news for Trump, but not for those goofy CNN narrative:

Mehdi: Why new reporting on the FBI Jan. 6 probe undermines Trump defense.

“Maybe it is true that there was no grand conspiracy to send armed militias to disrupt the election certification. But that just means Donald Trump is even more responsible for everything that happened that day—and since,” says Mehdi Hasan.

Don’t ask me to explain it if you can’t follow the logic. Watch it yourself.

  • "...four current and former law enforcement officials." The four can't be both at the same time, can they?

Trump promoted the attack on the Capitol and later sat back and cheered the insurrectionists on. Isn't that reprehensible enough for you?

  • If there is "scant evidence" that there was an "organized" plot to overturn the presidential election but someone plants the idea and whips up the frenzy of a violent mob, is it any less a crime either by the instigator or by members of a mob? How do you think lynch mobs worked?

  • In reply to jnorto:

Or was the frenzy whipped up by the same FBI agents, informers, or provocateurs that stirred up the Gov. Whitmer kidnapping? Funny, when the FBIs involvement in some of these things gets revealed, suddenly the charges and accusations disappear.

  • In reply to Get out of IL now!:

I don't see your point. Governor Whitmer was never kidnapped. The criminals were stopped first. On the other hand, the Capitol and its occupants were violently attacked by a coordinated and directed mob of insurrectionists. Do you disagree?

  • In reply to jnorto:

Turns out half the conspirators in the kidnapping plot were in cahoots with the FBI. You said someone planted the idea and whipped up the frenzy of a violent mob. Very possible and some evidence the frenzy was whipped up by FBI tools. Maybe no one has been charged with a crime other than trespassing or scant evidence of an organized plot because the instigators came from government agencies. Get the point?

  • In reply to Get out of IL now!:

I still don't understand what you are talking about. Six conspirators are charged in federal court. One has pleaded guilty and will soon be sentenced. The government is recommending nine years in prison for him. The others are awaiting trial. Others are charged in Michigan state courts.

  • The usual Democrat-Leftists hacks above come out and find evidence where even the corrupt FBI couldn't. Special Agents Aquinas and Norto will not let this case rest.

  • What do you expect from the partisan MSNBC? They have no credibility. Take "Morning Joe"... his name is fake...it's not Scarborough
