UPDATE: Poll(s): Brady leads Quinn

UPDATE: The results of Public Policy Polling polling (in which Brady leads Quinn 43 percent to 33 percent in the Illinois gubernatorial race) is confirmed by a new Rasmussen poll. In it, Rasmussen has Brady leading Quinn, 45 percent to 38 percent.
(Original post): A new survey by Public Policy Polling shows that Republican challenger Bill Brady leads incumbent Democrat Pat Quinn in the race for Illinois governor.
A few interesting items from the poll:
  • Brady leads among women 42 percent to 32 percent, defying common political analysis that Brady, because of his socially conservative views, will do poorly among women. Look for Planned Parenthood and their allies to intensify a nasty campaign against Brady, which they began as soon as Brady was announced as the nominee.
  • African-Americans were the only minority group to favor Quinn. Brady also leads among independents.
  • Quinn’s approval rating is 25 percent. Could that have something to do with his proposal for a big income tax increase?
Political bunk alert: The conventional wisdom will be that Brady isn’t well-enough known to have a firm lead; the lead will certainly narrow the more that voters learn about Downstater Brady. Perhaps. But this, of course, assumes that once they learn more about him, that they won’t like him.
