Cassandra Matz, currently a trustee of the Village of Olympia Fields, officially announced her candidacy to run for village president. The front runner is showing true leadership and hitting the ground running. “I’m thinking that I’ve done all I can, sitting in this position, that I want to do more and the residents deserve more, and that made me think about running for mayor,” she said.
The 27-year resident served on the board of trustees for four years before deciding to run for the village president seat. Matz said she has always been active in the community. As a stay-at-home mom for 21 years, she was able to instill her values in her children but also serve the community. She was on the Homeowners Association and served as the welcome wagon to new residents. Matz described Olympia Fields as a senior community and said seniors love familiarity. She said residents in Olympia Fields have that comfort and familiarity in the village, from the bank to the grocery store to the gas station and she wants to make sure the village stays that way. In November, Matz secured the petition signatures needed to place her name first on the ballot. As a long time active member of the community, residents received her well and quickly agreed to support.”Olympia Fields as a senior community and said seniors love familiarity”; said Matz.
The Village of Olympia Fields has always had a high standard of living. With the Olympia Fields Country Club and housing stock, it is a village that is fiscally sound and the pandemic has not changed that. Matz believes the village can ride out the pandemic. In January, she hosted a FREE drive-by Covid testing and Flu-shot event for residents and the event brought in families as far as Plainfield and Lockport Illinois.
Cassandra was born in Chicago, Illinois, and graduated from Aquinas Dominican Catholic College Prep High School, attended Northern Illinois University, and graduated from Columbia College in Chicago with a B.A. She is a mother of three college-educated children and a grandmother to two beautiful babies. Her first fundraiser is scheduled for Feb 6th, 2021. Please visit www.cassandrajmatz.org
