Meet The Blogger
CherylJ
I have a PhD in sociology from Northwestern University (2005) where I am currently an adjunct faculty member in Human Development and Psychological Services within the School of Education and Social Policy. I have taught sociology, social psychology, and African American studies at Lake Forest College, Northeastern Illinois University, and Northwestern University. My research focuses on the intersections of race, class, and gender. My first book, Interracial Marriages between Black Women and White Men was published in December 2008. My second book, Interracial Relationships Between Black Women and White Men was released in June 2018. Prior to my Northwestern position, I was the executive director of an Evanston community-based adult educational organization, and I continue to volunteer in Evanston organizations concerned with education, cultural diversity, and inclusion. I am the vice-president of the Forrest E. Powell Foundation and President of Hecky Powell Inc.
