Tee Shirt Sale & Da Bears Blog Picks Contest

Tee Shirt Sale & Da Bears Blog Picks Contest

Tee Shirt Sales

The Reverend is also on a bye this week so we’re using this opportunity to sell some more tee shirts. Tees will only be on sale through Halloween and then we’re closing down shop on this brilliant design (PICTURED ABOVE) by the aforementioned Reverend and the great Michael Lapinski (@m_lapinski on Twitter). These make an excellent gift for the holiday season and this will be the last opportunity for you to order the shirts before that point.

So go and support the site, buy a tee shirt and show a Bears fan you love them. To do so, CLICK HERE.

Picks Contest Reminder.

If you have not entered the contest by now you are ineligible to win the contest. To see a the current standings after five weeks, CLICK HERE. We will update the standings again in three weeks or so.

Picks Contest Prize.

You’ll be invited as special guest of DaBearsBlog to this year’s Round One Draft Party on Thursday night, April 25th at Cortland’s Garage in Bucktown. The prize includes:

  • Accommodation for draft night at The Willows Hotel, Lakeview. To see the hotel, CLICK HERE. I’ll also be in the hotel and will gladly take you for a drink at the local spot Monsignor Murphy’s if you so choose.
  • DaBearsBlog will cover the open bar for you and a +1 at the event.
  • Two automatic entries into the ticket contest giveaway that evening. (We’ll announce the particular game and details once the schedule is released next spring.)
  • A pair of 2012 DaBearsBlog tee-shirts.

*Sadly we’ve removed the Lou Malnati’s gift card for now due to some issues that have arisen. I am working on them and will have either the Malnati’s card restored or something in its place.

The Week’s Lines.

  • You only pick one team against the spread.
  • Once you select the team they are unavailable to you for the remainder of the season.
  • It is NOT a survival pool. The highest winning percentage at Week 15 will be awarded the prize. If there are ties, we’ll decide in Weeks 16 and 17 by increasing the number of games selected incrementally.
  • You don’t need to pick every week. But you must make ten selections between Week One and Week Fifteen. If you picked in Week One you do not need to pick in Week Two if you don’t like the games.
  • Picks are due by kickoff of the early games Sunday. Picks will only be accepted in the comments of THIS post.

(Home team in CAPS)

Cincinnati -1 CLEVELAND

NEW YORK JETS -3.5 Indianapolis

TAMPA BAY -4 Kansas City

ATLANTA -9 Oakland

BALTIMORE -3.5 Dallas

MIAMI -3.5 St. Louis

New England -3.5 SEATTLE

ARIZONA -4.5 Buffalo

SAN FRANCISCO -6.5 New York Giants

WASHINGTON -3 Minnesota

HOUSTON -3.5 Green Bay

I am violating my rule by picking a team and line I don’t love. But I can’t see how (1) Cincinnati won’t rebound from their putrid performance against the Miami Dolphins last week and (2) Cleveland can keep their head above water after dominating the Giants for a quarter plus and still being torpedoed. I also can’t imagine going into Cleveland right now will be the most hostile environment around (unless you’re the Browns) so I’ll take the BENGALS and lay the point.

  • first to wonder how the jets could ever possibly be favored.

    i'll take the COLTS +3.5

  • Colts +3.5

  • Hey Jeff, would there be any 'extreme' additional charges to have the tshirt shipped overseas?

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

Strangely enough, no. It costs the same for me to ship to Europe...etc. as it does for me to ship to California.

  • In reply to Jeff Hughes:

    Excellent, I'm in.

  • repost from 2 minutes ago because it's important damnit!

I'm looking for a big game from Pep and Forte coming off the bye week and having more time to rest their injuries..

Tice better watch old tape of Forte torching the Lions on screen passes and Pep ending Stafford's season.

    Marshall 8 catches 111yards / 1 TD
Bennett 4 catches 65 yards, 3 first downs 1 TD
Forte 88 yards on the ground and 75 receiving yards
Hester 2 catches 45 yards AND 2 returns over 40 yds
    Bush 2 rushing TD's
    Davis 3 catches 55 yards 1 TD

    Cutty 19/28 300+yds 3 TD's 1 INT / sacked 3 times

The key to the Lions is making them work for their scores so no deep balls to Megatron. Don't get Martzy behind your own 30yd line resulting in needless sack fumbles and turnovers.

Move the pocket against these Lions and get the ball out quick to Marshall, Bennett and Davis. neutralize the rush with Forte and Bush and hit Forte out of the backfield when he is matched up with a linebacker.

I can't wait to watch this ass kicking

  • so we're putting up 35? or are there going to be a couple field goals and defensive scores in there, too?

  • In reply to evantonio:

no defensive scores but there will be a turnover or two that set up a Gould field goal. I'm calling 38-24

  • i hope we don't give up 24 points to these punks. if we give up more than 10, i'm gonna make the defense run extra laps this week.

unless the new cba says i can't make them run laps. then i'll just make them sing and record their version of Teen Witch's "Top That"

  • In reply to evantonio:

remember that 7 of those will be in garbage time

  • I predict Wootton will have a field day against the totocats. Leaving Pep to get much more deserved rest. I hope MB is warming up to Paea, if not yet, after this game deff. Give him more consideration.

  • In reply to OsosFan:

actually Oso, Woot Woot was always my issue, but he's come a long way.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Copy that. My bad, MB.

  • In reply to OsosFan:

GPL was the anti-Paea last year.
MB is anti-white safety and Pez dispensers.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Yea, I see. Lol MB clarified it as well.

  • "no deep balls" - that's what she said!

But seriously, this is the key. Everyone finally figured out that if you scheme Mega out (Not every team has the secondary to do it), Stafford is left holding a bag of unproven shit. Titus Young is an OK slot guy, a poor man's Harvin, if you will. Burleson is older than dirt, nothing more than a possession receiver. Pettigrew is a poor man's Finley, and that ain't saying much since Finley drops a lot of balls.

LeShoure looks like the real deal, but our run d is top 5, just like last year, so we can contain him with our front 7, which we're gonna need to do since we MUST always have either Wright/Conte play over the top to help Peanut cover Mega.

Stafford is too impatient to dink-and-dunk (he's no Hasselbeck). Eventually, he'll get itchy and throw the deep ball into triple coverage, and that's when our ball hawks must feast (just like last year).

Take away the deep ball - key to the game for our D.

  • Tampa Bay

  • So, the NHL locks out - needlessly alienating the fans and hurting a game struggling for airtime and filling arenas of 2nd tier clubs nightly.

Way to go, guys. We can always count on you to make the NFL's last two years of PR nightmares look tame by comparison. Roger Dodger should have the FTD Florist over there any minute now, with a card that says "keep it up guys!"

  • In reply to gpldan:

2nd Lockout under Gary Bettman. He still holds the job because....?

Players hire Donald "I killed the 1994 World Series" Fehr.
Yeah, that has "compromise" written all over it.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

    third lockout.

    94-95 (played an abbreviated season)

04-05 (no season. fuck you, owners.)

    this year's.

  • Baltimore -3.5

  • Minnesota +3

  • houston -3

  • BALTIMORE -3.5

  • BTW Lou's is my #1 Favorite Deep Dish but if your still having problems with them what about Gino's East? Still damn good.

  • In reply to Bears-4-Ever:

The blog consensus seems to be Lou's, but my favorite is Giordano's stuffed spinach. If anyone wants to send me one that would be much appreciated.

  • In reply to Crown:

Shit. When we are there in Dec I need to get a pie, an Italian beef, and go to the wiener circle to get crushed.

Put that on the docket Doc and Rabbit (maybe shady will grace us with his presence too).

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Now that sounds like a party I would like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWUmLJSWUPg

  • In reply to Crown:

    common down!!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Definite + on the beef - hell, I want one NOW!

  • In reply to SC Dave:

Portillo's does a mail-order package of Italian beef that turns out fantastic.

The wife tried at home to make her own Italian beef and did a pretty good job, but we can't find rolls that are close enough to what you can get in Chicagoland. Hell, even Dominick's sells the rolls with the thin crispy crust... but can't find anything close here in Ohio.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

Dave, I got a great Chicago beef place right down the street. The owner sold his places in Chicago due to crime and gang activity. Great Italian sausage too.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

I was in Portillo's a few weeks ago when I was up there. I thought I saw they were building one in Phoenix? True?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Check to see if it's still around and if it is, Michael's Beef on the corner of North Ave and Oak Park Ave is worth the drive there. Hands down, best Italian Beef I've ever had...

  • In reply to Crown:

    Crown, Giordano's???

  • Thats my jam Waff; its been that way for years. For specialty, non-chain pizza, I like Bricks in lincoln park. My Pie used to be dominant before they close.

  • In reply to Crown:

I agree with ya, Crown... I'm glad I found one more person who enjoys the Giordano's. I was getting mass hatred last time.

I love them all, but it's my favorite.

Then again, I've never had Malnati's fresh - only frozen. I'm guessing there's a huge difference... but until proven otherwise, Giordano's is my favorite.

Plus, now that DRose has a piece of the biz (pie?), it only cements my love. Yes, I love me some Derrick Rose. Even thought about making "Rose" my daughter's middle name, but that got nixed.

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

Ha! That is an awesome idea regarding the kid's middle name. I might have to steal that one when I spawn. Last I heard, he should start cutting and slashing on the knee in the next week or two. Hopefully, D partnering up will keep them in biz for a long time. They were having financial problems and faced bankruptcy recently.

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

My daughter's middle name *is* Rose, but we picked it out closing on 23 years ago and Chicago basketball had nothing to do with it.

But perhaps she'll get a couple of brownie points for it should she ever decide to post here? It is a rather rough crowd to just dive on in to....

  • In reply to Crown:

There's another place tucked away in the hinterlands of Skokie whose name escapes me at the moment (Piquods) that has a cult following...

  • In reply to tobijohn:

    Burt's? Legendary

  • In reply to Crown:

Actually, the one i was thinking of is actually in Morton Grove and it's called Pequods. An old girlfriend (RIP) turned me on to the place. Looks like they've opened another in Lincoln Park. Check it out sometime if you have a chance:

  • In reply to Crown:

Are you talking about the one on Sheridan Rd by Loyola University?

  • In reply to Bears-4-Ever:

I dig Gino's East with their sausage patty pizza..Good stuff!!

  • Bucs -4

  • Tampa Bay +4

  • In reply to OsosFan:

    That's what I meant. Tampa getting 4.

  • In reply to Crown:

Btw I've wanted to try Daisy Cutter, but can't seem to find it here in NJ (unfortunately)I reccommended it to a guy at work who is a beer fanatic but his ignorance towards the name and him in general led his to disregard looking for it.I've learned quite a lot from you guys and I'm assuming its a great beer, oh well, his loss.

  • In reply to OsosFan:

It's my favorite pale ale in the chi. However, just before I left, a new brewery opened up in the Mayfair neighborhood called Finch's. Their cut throat pale ale and threadless india pale ale definitely rival half acre-s daisy cutter. I pretty much think about the cut throat multiple times on a daily basis.

  • Ok. I just picked over, I wasn't correcting your previous post at all lol.

  • In reply to OsosFan:

You're right. My mind is playing tricks on me today. Time for another cup of coffee.

  • In reply to Crown:

  • In reply to Crown:

god i fucking love that guy

  • Arizona -4.5

  • St. Louis Rams +3.5

  • Indianapolis

  • Colts - I might have picked them already but at 0-3, oh well.

  • Tampa Bay

  • In reply to SC Dave:

(Note for me: used Buffalo, Detroit, New England, Tampa Bay)

  • In reply to SC Dave:

Way to jump on my coat tails. That's the last time I pick before you.

  • In reply to Crown:

:-) Actually, I was going to go with Arizona until I read that Cassel was out.

  • In reply to Crown:

And what's funny, if that was all your picks, your sequencing was a little better than mine, as I am 1-2 right now hoping to get to .500

  • This is a huge weekend for football boys;

    Detroit vs Philly
    Giants vs 9ers
    Vikes vs Skins
    Cards vs Bills

All of these games have playoff implications for the Bears. I mean if we go 14-2 like I predict then it won't fucking matter but if for some reason the world goes cray cray and we need a wildcard to get in then we want Philly, either 9ers or Giants and an injury or two, Skins over Vikes and Bills over Cards.

    Season of Destiny/Season of Cutty

  • philly to lose i mean, since we will deliver 2 crushing losses to the kitties

  • I don't know who I want to lose more, Detroit or Philly. I guess Detroit, but then that means I have to root harder against Philly later.

Seriously, I hate all the NFC East teams SO MUCH. I don't want ANY of them to make it to the playoffs. Except Dallas, maybe, because then the Bears can destroy them a second time this year.

  • Totocats this week, for sure, sir.

  • I'm thinking the Cards finish 7-9, 8-8 or so. There not very good. Horrible o line, no running game. They'll be a team to watch in a year or two though.

  • agreed Coach. I can't even imagine the stomping we will put on the Cards in week 15. At that point we may be considering playing our guys sparingly if we are 12-2 at that point as I predict.

    Season of Destiny/Season of Cutty

  • Hopefully Lovie has learned to rest guys if/when he can.I know he has on occasion but not as often as I would like. Take Lachs's knee for instance. What an asshole move to play him in a meaningless game last year. As good as the d is playing , imagine what it looks like with 54 on
    two good knees.

  • Atlanta -9

  • Seattle +3.5

  • Giants +6.5

  • MIAMI -3.5

Humans, bonobos, chimpanzees, and dolphins are species known to engage in heterosexual behaviors even when the female is not in estrus

  • In reply to Perno:

Judging from your picture and your random babbling, I'm guessing you just sucked down a spleef of epic proportions

  • This week's KISS OF DEATH pick:

    PACKERS +3.5

  • And now, a word from our sponsor...
    Aaron Rodgers, meet J.J. Watt..
...hope he gets sack after sack..
IF that happens Green Bay will not...
....get a victory this week from the Pack.
    Burma Shave

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

I normally get impressed when a guy makes his pads look so small...

  • In reply to SC Dave:

I'm thinking that once J.J. Watt gets off the PEDS, both his arms and play will deflate.

  • MIN +3

  • Houston -3.5

  • Dallas +3.5

  • In reply to Viva:

    It's all about the hook.

  • Giordano's sauce tastes like chef boyardee.

  • In reply to Viva:

  • Eh, I sorta choose the pick-em teams outta fun, usually teams I want to root for that week. I didn't even play last year. With that being said, I can't believe the Skins (or Jets) are favored, so....

  • Wash -3

  • Hey Doc Nitty Gritty check this out:

    Dear diary,

  • In reply to Shady:

Christ, man. Who do you think got it on the ballot?

  • Guys, you can donate a bit of cash to the family of the guy that got murdered in Jacksonville. It's through Kellen Davis' marketing team. Even 5.00 would help. The wife is now on her own with a couple of kids and no breadwinner. Please consider helping.

Don't be a trick ass mark, help these kids.

  • You know, I was thinking about this. I was thinking, "Someone actually murdered another human being for the Jaguars. The fucken JAGS, are you serious!? They may not even be in Jackonsville for long"

I don't know all the details of the story, but when that guy goes to prison with bubba for the next 40 years, I imagine he'll learn to hate the Jags.

  • yeah, i think there was a jealousy/drunkeness component as well. I think the guy was in a group that was talking with the guys wife and her friend.

Never underestimate the stupidity of a jealous redneck...from Florida

  • I don't think you need to qualify that with Florida. That's pretty much universal in all of North America. Serious dumb ass + alcohol/drugs + weapons = extremely dangerous situation.

  • The guy was staying in the same hotel as I was. He was in a bar down the block about 2:30 a.m. There seem to be no particulars, and a lot of conflicting stories were being reported down there. The guy didnt like the attention his wife was getting from the other guy and walked up behind him, slit his throat, and walked out the door. The guy was like 6'5 and was like 30. The victim was 48. You'd think he would just administer an ass kicking if so inclined.

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

He'll need all that tough guy attitude where he is going.

Actually, where he needs to go is the electric chair.

  • I saw the guys picture in the paper down there, He IS Bubba!

  • That last line sounded like a psa from the Chapelle Show. Awesome. Now show have sex with Charlie Murphy! Daaarkness!

  • Vikings.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

I'm now officially in Hoodoo Mode. At 1-4 I have no chance of winning so this week the BiQueens get the kiss of death.

  • Atlanta -9

I still cant believe the Packers gave up an 18 point lead.

  • X-mas came early.

If the Texans and Eagles beat the Pack and Lions, they'll be about 3 games behind us.

Then we can just put the Meows out of their misery, and oh my oh my, am I gonna troll hard.

  • Shit, don't troll the poor bastards. You think it's hard being a Bears fan? You think *we* got disappointment and frustration!? Imagine being a fucking *Lions* fan.

Shit, it's almost as bad as being a Cubs fan.

  • That loud spinning sound was coming from Lombardi's grave.

  • ARIZONA -4.5

  • Stones released a new song yesterday. Guess I should stop worrying about how old I'm getting.

  • In reply to Shady:

That last one had me rolling.

  • In reply to Crunch Buttsteak:

    What Crunch said.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

    In my mind I'm saying:

    Jean-Luc Picard
    of the U S S

    Jean-Luc Picard
    of the U S S

    Jean-Luc Picard
    of the U S S

    Can't... stop... rapping... aarrrghhhhh!

  • Green Bay + 3.5

  • In reply to TheFifth:

I'll be the ass douche on the site this week, trying to jinx the fudge, and "taking one for the team".

  • In reply to TheFifth:

Hahaha Albertintuscon got it first. Normally, don't his predictions go sour and end in the opposite? I'm a firmbeliever in the Al- curse.... A

  • In reply to OsosFan:

Damn, I missed it. Al broke the rules by including his pick in a post. With both of us picking them, we've doubled the curse. My only win was picking the Bears last week.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

  • Skyfall getting 5/5 stars from British press, saying it's a "huge bounce back after Quantum" and "as good or better than Casino Royale"

  • In reply to gpldan:

If that last part is true, I'll be seeing it real soon. Casino was the best Bond movie ever.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    1. Dr. No
    2. The Spy Who Loved Me
    3. All other sean connery Bonds
    4. Cannonball Run

  • hahah if it worked in the movies, why not?

"Michael Vick has been working on his ball security issues this week by carrying a football around the team facility and having teammates try stripping him."

Hope it works, at least for this week. I am definitely gonna root for the Eagles to bash the Meows. Meows have shot-up (down) to my least favorite team, and I'm hard pressed to find a team I'd rather lose (maybe the Pack).

  • I had a dream last night that I was piloting a plane
And all the passengers were drunk and insane
I crash landed in a Louisiana swamp
Shot up a horde of zombies
But I come out on top
    What's it all about?
Guess it just reflects my mood

    Sitting in the dirt
    Feeling kind of hurt
All I hear is doom and gloom
And all is darkness in my room
Through the light, your face I see
    Baby take a chance
Baby won't you dance with me

Lost all that treasure in an overseas war
It just goes to show you don't get what you paid for
Bowing to the rich and worrying about the poor
Put my feet up on the couch and lock all the doors
    Hear a funky noise
That's the tightening of the screws

    Feeling kind of hurt
    Sitting in the dirt
All I hear is doom and gloom
But when those drums go boom boom boom
Through the night, your face I see
    Baby take a chance
Baby won't you dance with me
Baby won't you dance with me
    Ah yeah

Fracking deep for oil but there's nothing in the sump
There's kids all picking at the garbage dump
I am running out of water so I better prime the pump
I am trying to stay sober but I end up drunk

    We'll be eating dirt
Living on the side of the road
    There's some food for thought
Kind of makes your head explode
    Feeling kind of hurt

  • Cincinnati

  • I just threw up some green and yellow stuff. Ugh, it's...

  • Green Bay

  • It's a win-win.

If they win the game, I go 3-0.

If they lose the game, I win.

  • In reply to MikeV in OR:

    allow me doc...

    mike you are a sinner

(three hail mary's and a how's your father)

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I'm pretty sure we're all sinners here MB. At least since Trac seems to not hang out here anymore.

  • In reply to MikeV in OR:

Here's a win-win: Houston wins the game; Rodgers loses a kneecap.

  • In reply to Crunch Buttsteak:

Hell yes! I'll have the replay video running over and over as my screensaver.

  • In reply to Michael L:

If I can switch it to SF -6.5 instead I'll do that... (It hasn't kicked off yet.) Otherwise, I guess I'll go with no pick this week.
