It’s Kris Bryant Day!
Hope he waits ’til tomorrow
For first big league hit
The good news is that today’s the day Cubs fans have been anticipating since spring training – or before. Kris Bryant arrives from Iowa for his first game at Wrigley Field.
The bad news (for me, anyway) is that I won’t be there. Somebody did buy my tickets on StubHub, so the seats won’t be empty. But I neglected to calculate the “days to wait for extra year before free agency” when making plans for this evening, and today was crossed off my list when we chose games a few weeks ago.
Which leads to my modest request of the newest Cub. I’ll be at Wrigley Field with my daughter tomorrow afternoon. We’d love to see your first major league hit in person. I know you’d like to have one of those magical debuts, but I figure it couldn’t hurt to ask.
What’s that? You don’t care? OK. How about a compromise? Go ahead and get a couple of hits today – maybe a game winning RBI or something nice like that. Then, when my daughter and I see you on Saturday, you can get your first big league home run.
Sounds fair, doesn’t it?
See you tomorrow.
