Cubs Game and Preview: Front office being held back financially? Updates on Soler. Barney to start rehab at Iowa

Cubs Game and Preview: Front office being held back financially? Updates on Soler. Barney to start rehab at Iowa
There has been a lot of tension surrounding the Cubs lately. The two story lines on the usually happy, happy, fun Opening Day were Ricketts vs. the rooftop owners, and the local media repeatedly reminding the front office about impatience. Let’s not even get into the goat head or Jorge Soler and his bat wielding.... Read more »

Cubs "Black Wednesday" has silver lining

Cubs "Black Wednesday" has silver lining
When the news came down today about the Cubs dismissal of Oneri Fleita one of my first thoughts was “How Cubs is this”? The only difference is the old Cubs way wouldn’t have had the guts to correct the mistake this quickly. The guy who was just given a 3-year extension prior to Theo Epstein’s... Read more »

Cubs rebuilding shouldn't be so costly (ticket prices)

Cubs rebuilding shouldn't be so costly (ticket prices)
The reality has set in; this rebuilding thing is becoming really ugly. Well, it already is really ugly, but yes it could get even uglier. It seems like just a few weeks ago we were talking about this team being competitive in this division. I guess all the talk about this being one of the... Read more »

Wood turns page, hopefully Cubs will too

Wood turns page, hopefully Cubs will too
A classy Kerry Wood made the right decision to move on today. Now I hope the Cubs follow suit and move on as well. When I wrote about the Cubs using Wood as a mascot and for fans to let go of their Cubbie blankies, it wasn’t anti-Wood. It was more about being anti-“Cubbie”. This... Read more »

No value in Marmol closing for Cubs (Update: Marmol removed from closer role)

No value in Marmol closing for Cubs (Update: Marmol removed from closer role)
**UPDATE** Per David Kaplan, Marmol has been told he is no longer the closer. Russell and Dolis will share duties. Marmol’s role is as of yet undefined. Some big decisions are coming for this Cubs front office. The biggest may be when they approach Tom Ricketts about eating some more money. This is probably something all... Read more »

Cubs, Oneri Fleita building big advantage with Dominican Academy

Cubs, Oneri Fleita building big advantage with Dominican Academy
Bruce Levine interviewed Theo Epstein today on ESPN 1000.  Much of it was the usual fodder, but Levine saved the most interesting question for last.  Well, it was actually more of an open-ended question so it was the answer that was really interesting. The question was about what Theo’s biggest surprise upon taking over the... Read more »

Reality TV: Cubs current deal is bad

Reality TV: Cubs current deal is bad
Gordon Wittenmyer points out the obvious disadvantage that the Cubs are facing with their current television rights deal. We all know that the Cubs and WGN are synonymous, and that the Tribune Co. owned both the Cubs and the television station when the last deal was negotiated. Did someone say sweetheart deal? You can bet... Read more »

Pictures of My Day at Wrigley Field...and a Pujols Question for Tom Ricketts!

This was NOT Carlos Zambrano. This was in the visitor's dugout. The caption reads, "I'm sorry, Carp", whom I presume means Chris Carpenter. Did someone screw up in the field and take it out on the defenseless drinking fountain?
Yesterday, compliments of JDRF I was able to spend a few hours at Wrigley Field.  For someone who always dreamed about taking the field for the Cubs as a kid, this is as close as I will ever get.  It was a surreal experience.  We had a blast. While there I bumped into owner Tom Ricketts. ... Read more »

Is this Jim Hendry's Last Stand with the Cubs?

Does Hendry deserve another chance? As I’ve said many times in the past, this is a transitional year for the Cubs.  Many of the Cubs financial mistakes are coming off the books after this season — up to $60M worth.   The team will have a lot of financial flexibility heading into a strong free... Help Bring Home a Cure

Ever wonder what it’s like to step out onto Wrigley Field? Or take a swing in the batting cages?  Maybe chum around in the locker room or dugout?  For those of us who can’t throw a 95 mph fastball, turn a double play, or hit a 450 foot home run, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation...
