Ex Cub prospect Fernando Kelli per Cub Reporter.

  • In reply to Theodore Anderson:

Oops. Well, he was a Cubs prospect for most of last week.

  • In reply to Tom U:

I read an article earlier today that said MLB put a limit of 180 total rostered players per organization. And the Cubs, after these cuts (Kelli & others) I believe, Stand at 210 overall. Supposedly have to cut 30 by end of ST.

  • In reply to Milk Stout:

I don't have the Cubs exact figure in front of me right now, but generally this is correct.
    Some guys will get injured.
There will be some vets with NRI to ST who get released after they fail to make the big league roster or the Cubs don't feel they have upside that a stint in EXST or AAA will fix.
There will also be the normal swath of minor leaguers who don't earn jobs to begin the year who will get released as well. At this time of year organizations carry more C/SS/CF/P types than they are likely to need, but they need extra coverage in case a few guys get hurt in ST at those critical positions.

Nooooooo. Kelli is an ex-Cub? Well, darn.

  • In reply to Jonathan Friedman:

Still fast. Never really learned how to apply it on the field. Wasn't good in the outfield and very unpolished on the bases. There wasn't enough else with his game to warrant keeping him if he wasn't making progress in the areas his one advantage would best apply.

  • In reply to Michael Ernst:

Cubs have added a ton of prep and IFA outfielders the last two years who need playing time in AZL and Low-A ball this year. They must have deemed Kelli had no shot at opening in High-A.

4 years and hadn't gotten past short season ball. No surprise I guess.
