Dads Who Run: Meet Christopher Harris

This is the second installment of Dads Who Run here on cubicle dad runs. Working parents have a lot on their plate. And as a working dad, I think we sometimes get taken for granted. It’s tough to balance work, family and life in general. Now add in endurance sports? You’re upping the ante a... Read more »

Taper time...a quick update

I was scarce last week because I was laying low, fighting off being sick. I thought I had it beat on Friday night and was planning for my long run on Saturday morning. But after a long night, when I finally got up, I felt queasy. So I decided to move the run to yesterday.... Read more »

Dads who run: Meet Keith Lipinski...

This is the first of what I hope becomes a regular thing on cubicle dad runs. Working parents have a lot on their plate. And as a working dad, I think we sometimes get taken for granted. It's tough to balance work, family and life in general. Now add in endurance sports? You're upping the ante a bit. I thought it would be nice to highlight some Dads who run! If you're a dad who runs, and want to share your story, leave a comment below and we'll talk! With that said, take it away Keith!
1. Introduction I am Keith Lipinski, 37, an Information Technology (or IT as it's commonly known) Manager at Paper Source in Chicago. I have a two year old son named Gavin, my beautiful wife Ryan is an administrative law judge for the State of Illinois. We reside in Park Ridge, IL at my mother in laws house which is quite helpful when it comes to both running and raising a kid. We are saving up to get a big down payment for a nice suburban home,  complete with ¼ mile running track in the backyard (note to realtors, the lack of track is a dealbreaker). In addition to running my hobbies include bartending, musical snobbery, professional wrestling (I hosted a online radio show for 7 years and have been involved behind the scenes as a writer, promoter, producer, DVD host, etc), and trying to be a fantastic dad while trying to get a minimum of 10 hours of sleep a night – hence the deliberating Starbucks addiction...

Letting toxic people and negative thinking affect me...it stops now. It's done.

Yesterday was a rough day for me. I had some feelings from my childhood (you can read about it here…I’ll wait) stirred up a bit. It’s nothing I really want to dive into here, so I’ll spare the details. I’ll just say it was unpleasant and unnecessary. Couple that with some negative self image stuff... Read more »

On my run this morning I thought about who I'm thankful for...

Before I get to far into this I want to say I know I’m not the first person to make lifestyle changes, to lose weight and get healthy and I certainly won’t be the last. When people tell me that what I’m doing inspires them a part of me has a hard time processing or... Read more »

Getting (re)organized...

I’ve written before about balancing work, family, volunteering and training and how I try to stay on top of everything. I’ve had success using Google Calendars and thought I’d revisit the topic again after a coworker asked how I keep tabs of everything. It looks pretty busy in the pic to the right (you can... What is my deal?

This week is off to a rocky start; I’m stressed out and up until didn’t know why. I assumed it was due to the marathon being a mere 46 days away- at least in part. Yes, I’m getting a little antsy. I had a mini freak out yesterday, after my first marathon related dream Sunday... Read more »

Checking in from Door County, plan for my long run...

Day 4 of vacation, and we’re winding down the clock on our time away. It’s been an awesome time so far, and I’m definitely relaxed. Coach Jen has me down for my long run tomorrow, as we’ll be driving back home on Saturday. My plan is simple, run an out and back around Peninsula State... Read more »

Great news and some reinforcement

If you follow me on twitter, or if we’re friends on facebook, you already know the news. K’s cardiology appointment went well. But I promised I’d share the news once I knew. And frankly I need to work out what’s been swimming around in my head the past 24-hours. So you’re along for the ride…wheeeeeee!... Read more »

My wedding ring...

Those who know me know that I’m a sentimental guy. Those who are close also know my wedding ring doesn’t fit anymore. I’ve been wearing it on my middle finger since last August. Pam and I have joked that it’s like saying I’m married, eff yeah! But now it’s even getting loose on that finger.... Read more »
