A Snow-pocolypse-ageddon start to Heart month!

A Snow-pocolypse-ageddon start to Heart month!

We’ve got a fine layer of snow on the ground after round 1, or the appetizer portion of this blizzard. I celebrated by registering for the 2011 Chicago Marathon at midnight last night!

By how slow the website loaded, it seems many, many others did as well! I’ve been excited about this race since the moment I crossed the finish line last October. I saw this video posted on facebook…and after watching, I was ready for a run!

And we’re officially in Heart Month. K is excited for Wear Red Day and has outfits picked out for the while family. And as my Start! Running Team members will be doing, I too will share Heart Facts. If you check out Tom’s post on Run with Heart yesterday, you’ll see the first of many…

Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women age 20 and over, but it is largely preventable. In fact, up to 80 % of cardiac events in women may be prevented if women make the right choices for their hearts, including diet, exercise and not smoking.

I’m going to take a slightly different approach. I plan to share facts
on Congenital Heart Defects (CHD). Here’s my CHD fact/ tidbit of the

Congenital heart defects are the #1 cause of
birth defect related deaths. 1 in 3 children who die from a birth
defect have a congenital heart defect.

A week from Friday I’ll share K’s story and will take on a huge fund
raising challenge. I’ll need a lot of help in the form of donations and
spreading the word. While I won’t officially kick off fund raising to
then, I’ll share the link in case you’d like the info. It’s a lofty goal for one day, but I think it can be done.

If you’re going to run a race this year, why not run me and run with Heart! Join the Start! Running Team for the American Heart Association. It looks like team cubicle will be in action with a few people running for the AHA! So exciting!

With the Snow-tastic storm of doom upon us, my boss decided we’re working from home. Pam has the day off, so we’re keeping the girls home and hunkering down! Workout wise, Coach Jen has me down for a treadmill run today…hills. I’m hoping Ashley can switch Wednesday and Thursday. If so, I’ll TM run on Wednesday too. As it may be horrible out, I’m going to talk to my FIL about using his treadmill.

I’m hopeful things will be clear enough for everyone to Run with Heart at the Inaugural Run with Heart 5K Fun Run presented by Viamedia and Fleet Feet Sports!
If it’s horrible out, there’s still the post run, happy hour. Check out the event page and RSVP!

If you have to go out today and tonight, be safe out there. I’ll check in tomorrow with my weigh-in results from the igloo the girls and I will build out back.

More later!
