Pre-gaming it with a chicken sandwich fight

(As CTA Tattler takes a brief summer’s respite, we’ll publish “Tattler Tales” from the very early days of CTA Tattler. I started chronicling all things seen and heard on the CTA in June 2004. This is my first July 4th post, 2004. Happy Fourth!)

We’re on the Red Line heading south from Howard around noon Saturday, the train packed with Cubs and Sox fans heading to Wrigley.

A 20-ish woman sits alone in her Cubs T-shirt, clutching a bag in her lap.

By Wilson she dials her cell phone:

“Hi. I’m at Wilson. Yeah, 10 minutes or so.

“And I brought you a sandwich.”

“Well, I guess if you really want to you can get a hot dog at the game.”

“But I thought you liked chicken sandwiches? And I even got it for you from Burger King.”

“OK, so I try to be nice and it backfires on me. Great.

“Yeah, see ya.”

  • If she wasn't going to make it herself, at least she could have bought them at Wendy's. Of course, it was about 6 years before Wendy's supposedly upped the quality oft their chicken sandwiches.
