CTA to expand Morse station house during rehab

The station house for the Morse Red Line stop will be expanded into an adjacent vacant storefront when the CTA rehabs Morse starting June 29, 49th Ward Alderman Joe Moore announced this week.

The CTA also will begin work on sprucing up other storefronts under the Morse platform on both sides of the street. “Most of the work will take place inside the stores, but some minimal exterior work will also occur, including tuck-pointing and replacing the doors, windows and exterior light fixtures,” Moore noted on his website.

Also, the CTA this weekend will continue its track replacement project at Morse Avenue. The two southbound tracks will be replaced, new ballasts will be installed, and a new drainage system and waterproofing will be put in place to prevent leakage during rain storms, Moore reports.

During this work, the station will be open, but northbound trains will not stop at Loyola, Morse or Jarvis from 10 pm Friday to 4 am Monday, June 18. For service from these stations, take a 95th-bound train south to Thorndale and transfer to a Howard-bound train.  For service to these stations, take a Howard-bound train to Howard and transfer to a 95th-bound train.
