Ex-inmate still rides CTA rails for money - and hassles passengers

Here’s a familiar CTA beggar going off on a passenger for having the temerity to question his sincerity.

This is the guy who “got out of prison” a few years ago and is trying to set his life straight. That’s fine, but I suggest you not verbally harass folks who might give you money.

Hat tip to Lyletta.

  • This guy is awesome, doing us a favor by not robbing us.

  • Any bets that he never rides north of Roosevelt?

  • In reply to ScooterLibbby:

Scooter, I will take that bet and win it. I have only seen him north of Roosevelt, and I've seen him three or four times.

  • In reply to ScooterLibbby:

Scooter, he knows that one can't shake down as much fn money south of fn Roosevelt as one can on the fn North Side, from fn little girls with fn U Passes going to some fn fine fn University. Even the fn governor from fn Ravenswood Manor fn understood that.

I'm only using his lingo, as apparently he only learned one word in prison or CPS.

Considering I just had him on the Green line between Laramie and Conservatory this morning, I'll take that bet.

  • In reply to Joseph Finn:

I'm flat out amazed that someone like him has ridden anything but the Red Or Green Lines south of Roosevelt.
I've never seen any peddlers or preachers anywhere else. In my riding the L, they have always gotten off & Roosevelt & flipped back the other way.
I have seen some beggars on the North or West Sides, but most of them are relatively innocuous & aren't aggressive.

I guess you missed the story about the guy who lived on 4th St. in Wilmette who was arrested for possession of a firearm, which he said he had to deter burglars using the Purple Line as a means of access. Of course, after the D.C. Second Amendment case, Wilmette decided to drop that ordinance.

You can ask da fn Mare, the whole purpose of the Red Line is to get south siders to the north side.

  • Apparently also not in the APTA calculus, and showing what the effect is of certain persons' favorite governor cutting mental health funding.

You also "gottta axe" how much money he is showing at about :10 and how he got it.

  • I have seen this person on the Pink Line from Polk to Clinton on a few occassions.

  • Is this the same guy that was in the news last year for harassing people on the Green Line? When is the CTA and the city going to seriously deal with crime? If not, I have two words that might change things: Bernard Goetz

  • In reply to scottyboyswa:

Are you really advocating someone shoot the guy? Because that seems somewhat extreme.

  • In reply to Cheryl:

I'm not advocating it, but if this guy and others like him continue to make the CTA unsafe, it's only a matter of time before someone pulls a Goetz.

  • Ah, the 99%.
