Maybe the driver should have shut the door before bailing?

That's very "Day After Tomorrow." Maybe the driver couldn't get the door closed.
Maybe the blizzard should be referred to as "the two two storm ."
I get the feeling that CFD just wanted to get everyone out of there ASAP. I don't think closing the door was anyone's first concern. It's entirely possible given conditions at the time that enough snow accumulated during the evacuation process that the door couldn't be closed. One of those Free Enterprise buses that Northwestern and Loyola use for campus shuttles suffered a similar fate.
New Flyer?.. More like a SNOW flyer! http://instantrimshot.com/classic/?sound=rimshot
