Last week I wrote recaps of the CTA’s year in review, and the top stories of 2010. Now I figured I would give the CTA a chance to toot its own horn. They issued a press release last week listing the goals accomplished in 2010.
Following are what the CTA calls its key infrastructure improvements for 2010:
- The CTA notes that it found other ways to finance the critical capital needs.
- CTA has been awarded more than $55 million in grants for various projects.
- It used “$12.5 million in federal stimulus funds to construct a new entrance on Archer Avenue to the Red Line Cermak-Chinatown station. The entrance serves as the primary access point for customers while the
main entrance to the station is rebuilt and made accessible.”
- CTA continues to work with the Chicago Department of Transportation on the rehab of the State-Grand Red Line station and “the construction of the CTA’s first new station in nearly a decade” – the Morgan Green Line station in the West Loop.
- Apple Inc. funded a $4 million rehab of the station house at the North/Clybourn Red Line station.
- In-service testing of eight new Series 5000 rail cars started in 2010 and continues this year.
- Security cameras were installed at all 144 rail stations.
- The agency enhanced functionality of its Bus Tracker program, “making the information more readily accessible. In 2010, the two-way
texting feature was enhanced with instructions posted on bus stops on
how to receive estimated arrival times via text message.”
