State promises to fork over $70 million due to the CTA

I know I’ve written this story before. It’s very familiar.

The state of Illinois is behind in its payments to the CTA. Illinois owes about $70 million, but the governor is promising the money will come before the end of the year. I sure hope so. Otherwise the CTA would have to amend its own budget, possibly leading more service cuts. It’s possible, but not likely.

The Tribune reports the RTA had to borrow money to keep operating because the state didn’t fork over the money it owed.

  • I had also mentioned (at least that the state had not forked over the money) this before the election. If I remember, the reaction was that Quinn's opponent didn't give a rodent's posterior about transit.

I also heard on the radio that Quinn said that all the 2010 bills were paid, and now the question was how to pay the 2011 ones. However, he was engaged in deceit, as Fiscal Year 2010 ended on June 30, 2010. As this demonstrates, the state is undoubtedly 5 months behind, probably to everyone.

So, I guess those who posted the patooie comment should be satisfied with for whom you voted.

  • MK, there wasn't much of a choice, IMO.

So, I guess, as I said, that you are satisfied with your choice.

No, but it could have been worse.
