A fine howdy-do: "All the brakes just locked up"

Announcement from our Red Line operator, stopped just north of the Fullerton station:

Good morning passengers, this is your operator. All the brakes on this
train just locked up. I don’t know why. I’m going to have to go to the
track level to find out. We appreciate your patience.

The good news is that it “only” took six minutes, and we were on our way
again to work and school.

Small oddity on this train: two women in their 20s took turns reading
aloud to each other from a book.

  • Good for your motorman. I hate it when the train just sits there and there's no explanation or they just play the "we are experiencing a delay and will be moving shortly" announcement.

  • I'll echo what Cheryl said: this kind of clear communication is exactly what *all* CTA employees should strive for. If I know what's going on, I don't get as frustrated.
