Team Gregula was excited to attend Days of the Dead Chicago at its brand new location at the Crowne Plaza O’Hare Chicago in Rosemont, IL. This fangtastically fun event took place the weekend of November 22-24, 2019. There was so much to see and do, we couldn’t decide what to do first!
From the vendor room with tons of horror memorabilia to costumed fans and celebrities galore, it was a bloodfeast for the eyes and ears. Da Count himself made an appearance on Saturday and was recognized and stopped by sooo many people, it was like a family reunion!
Celebrity guests included actors Danielle Harris, Kristina Klebe, Derek Mears. Jen and Sylvia Soska (the Soska twins), Michael Biehn, Jennifer Blanc-Biehn, Jackson Robert Scott and Edward Furlong. Felissa Rose (from the film Sleepaway Camp) was a total sweetheart and gave excellent hugs!
We were super lucky to meet headliners Richard Dreyfuss and Steve Guttenberg who were both friendly and kind. Richard Dreyfuss was lots of fun to converse with and he was very talkative and excited to be there, so much that his manager had to cut HIM off as he needed to get to a photo op shortly after our visit.
Days of the Dead conventions, and Chicago in particular are extremely popular due to how laid back and fan-friendly it is. Most of the celebrities were approachable and happy to take photos with the fans without the huge photo-op fees. After hours everyone hangs out in the lobby chatting and having a great time.
The new venue was in a hex-cellent location this year, as Rosemont’s proximity to O’Hare made it a LOT easier to get to, especially for those of us stuck on public transportation. My only disappointment was the lobby areas, much smaller and less aesthetically pleasing than the Marriott in Schaumburg but that didn’t affect the spirit of the convention. We had an amazing time at Days of the Dead Chicago and can’t wait for next year!
