Haunt Review 2019: 13th Floor Haunted House Chicago

Greetings mortals and morsels! It’s that time of year again…Halloween!!! Well you know that means Team Gregula gets to start Haunted Housing again and our first stop is a favorite of the fang-mily that we have been coming to for the past few years – 13th Floor Haunted House Chicago.

13th Floor Haunted House Chicago is located in Melrose Park, IL just west of city limits. The haunt entrance is kind of hard to find off the street as the sign is kinda dark and not readily visible from the main street. I would use my GPS if I were you. I believe there is paid parking but we usually park next door in the shopping center lot by Aldi’s for free. It’s close and they don’t tow, so no worries.

The lines weren’t super long as it was still early in the season, but there was a decent amount of people that night. There is a large indoor waiting area at the haunt which is a great idea for inclement weather but it was actually a clear evening so we spent some time hanging outside. Plenty of ghoulish undead creatures provided wait entertainment inside and outdoors lurking around to frighten all, including a creepy clown in a shopping cart haha!

13th Floor Haunted House Chicago has two all new themed areas for 2019: The Other Side and Creature Feature. When we walked inside we were very surprised to see the haunted house has completely changed, including the waiting area and entrance itself, no more spooky gates, just a huge door. There is still a lot of creepy decor, but it felt more “streamlined” than in the past. The sets were dramatically changed throughout the attraction, but still retain the fantastic movie quality that is expected of 13th Floor. My favorite scene with the church is still there, I miss the satanic priest, but an evil nun was in charge and that was very spooky.

Creature Feature was full of your favorite classic horror characters such as vampires, werewolves, a Frankenstein monster and other creatures of the night. The atmosphere really makes you feel that you are actually IN a vintage horror film. Highlight was a swamp scene where you get the illusion of walking through chest deep water! The Other Side depicts everyday life and situations like going to the casino, wandering about the big city at night…but more frightening than you’ll ever know….

The actors were VERY much on point with their jump scares, and fang-tastic animatronic figures were situated to pop out for unexpected frights. Team Gregula had an exciting time at 13th Floor Haunted House Chicago and highly recommends that you do too!
