It’s that time of year again, the chill in the air, leaves start to fall off the trees and baseball playoffs (this year Chicago has something to be excited about) are about to begin. It also signals the beginning of the Halloween season and more importantly, the Birthday of our very own Count Gregula. Obviously that means it’s time for our annual trip to Bengtson’s Pumpkin Fest!
Now this year’s Boo-Day visit to Bengtson’s Pumpkin Fest was made even more special as Da Count himself would make his very first undead appearance at the farm. It was a bright sunny day, so we made sure to slather ourselves in the SPF 5000 to avoid any vampire burns.
Pumpkins, pumpkins as far as the eye can see! The sea of bright orange was a welcoming sight after a whole year away. As Da Count, Grim Marco and I wandered about the farm, we noticed that Bengtson’s seemed to be much larger than before. More kiddie rides were added including spinning Honey Pots in addition to the old favorites such as the Hootenanny Railroad (choo choo!) and the Giant Fun Slide. There was an all new activity called “Pay Dirt” where you purchase a bag full of dirt and you rinse it in a pan to find gemstones – just like the old time miners did!
There was a much larger petting zoo area with lots of animals ranging from farming to exotic. The highlight was the pen full of goats who just LOVE to take selfies! A separate barn housed the baby animals where we got to observe the little ones with their mommies.
Other fun things to do at Bengtson’s Pumpkin Fest are going into The Haunted Barn to get scared silly and the Fun Barn for more kid friendly entertainment.
Don’t forget the delicious food! Bengtson’s has all kinds of yummy options from BBQ to tacos to cider doughnuts. Da Count decided to lunch on a hot dog and caramel apple instead of biting necks!
Pig races are always a hoot, and we even got our Birthday Vampire a chance to be a pig rooter but he was too darn slow! 🙁
The best part of going to Bengtson’s Pumpkin Fest is tradition. It always feels good to relive old times and make new memories. Seeing the old familiar spooky decorations and animated figures made us feel warm inside on this chilly day. Sadly, we didn’t have time to go on the hayride this year but we made sure to check out the Halloween shop above the Haunted Barn.
Team Gregula had an amazing time at Bengtson’s Pumpkin Fest and we made sure that Da Count had the best Boo-Day ever!
