All About Me

My name is Catherine Braxton and I have been working in the field of Alzheimer's and Dementia for 20 years.  I have come across many caregivers, in the field and in the trenches that truly make a difference in the everyday lives of these individuals.  I have also, unfortunately, run across many caregivers who are jaded, frustrated and lack the social skill set to create meaningful moments for our aging adults.

This lack of empathy and sensitivity in the field can lead to missed opportunities, miscommunication and misunderstandings.  What the aging adult craves is to be validated and understood. The best way to do this is by excavating empathy within ourselves and facing our vulnerabilities to create better connection.

I am the C.E.O. of the Silver Dawn Training Institute. Together with my business partner, Tami Neumann,  we create and curate the Dementia R.A.W. conference.  We focus on physical sensitivity, empathy enhancement and practical techniques to bring home.  Our signature program, IMPROVe©,  includes teaching unique dementia communication skills based on the rules of improv.

We love providing caregivers, in the field and in the trenches, with this dynamic set of tools which can be accessed easily regardless of clinical skill level or age.  You can access information about Silver Dawn and Dementia R.A.W. at .

As a wife and mother to three children including one with Autism, I find that these skills and techniques work and are necessary and important to continue successful communication with anyone and everyone.

This blog is an attempt to inspire everyone who finds themselves caring for an aging adult.  Within my own life, I find many connections in the daily routine that connect directly to how we should care for the older people in our lives.  I hope you enjoy each blog post, as they are personally relatable and thought-provoking.

I would love your feedback, insight and shared inspiration.  You can connect with me at or my email at
