Shop Small Day 286: Chuck's Southern Comfort Cafe

Now that baseball season is in full swing (ha! get it?!), it means new towns and new (to me) small businesses. A recent game in Burbank led us to a highly recommended restaurant. We were told the food is great and the beer is cold…that was more than enough to influence our group. The recommendation was spot on. Chuck’s Southern Comfort Cafe was fantastic!

imageMost of us spotted the giant pig sign on our way to the field, little did we know that’s where we’d end up. Though they do have an actual dining area, their attached Voodoo Lounge could seat us immediately, had hockey on tv, and there was no problem eating in there with the kids.

Between everyone in our group, I think we sampled almost everything on the menu- from burgers, to pulled pork, pulled chicken, ribs, even the oysters. I’m pretty sure every plate was all but licked clean.

Good thing our team is like a family- there was a whole lot of sampling going on! didn’t order- but definitely will next time- the creamy homemade mac n’ cheese side dish. The blue cheese salad was another crowd favorite, as was the tomato-chipotle rice.

What sets Chuck’s apart from other bbq joints is the cajun-creole influence. Besides bbq favorites like brisket & pulled pork, you’ll find a selection of gumbo, jambalaya, and po’boys (next on my list to try).

Although Chuck’s Southern Comfort Cafe is worth the drive to Burbank, you don’t have to…they recently opened a second location in Darien! I guess we were the only ones who hadn’t heard of them since Chuck’s has been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives, 190 North, and Check Please!

Do you ever take recommendations on shops and restaurants that you should go visit, or are they just places you happen to come across? We love following your blog! Hopefully someday you'll make your way into our shoppe. ;)

Absolutely!! Where is your shop? Thank you so much for following my blog.

  • Chuck's is great. If you like cajun/creole style food try the etoufee chuck makes, outstanding. You also need to try the daily specials but get there early as they do sell out well before closing. If I'm not wrong I think there is also a location in downers grove now but Burbank is the original, though theyre not in the original location (fire gutted the place and they relocated). That's my chuck's history lesson for the day, been eating there since they first opened.
