For the sake of argument, let’s just say I get a little cranky when I’m hungry. When it’s 7:00 and we haven’t had dinner, I don’t feel like cooking, and I’m sick of leftovers…well…things can get a little ugly. Wisely my husband diffused the situation by suggesting a Mexican restaurant not far from our house. Since it’s almost Cinco de Mayo, you’re definitely going to want to try Rito’s Mexican Restaurant.
Even at 8:00 there was still a line out the door…with a projected 45 minute wait. So, we grabbed a beer from the bar, the kids played a couple games of Galaga, and we waited. Fortunately it didn’t take 45 minutes because I was ready to attack the trays being delivered to each table: not simply from hunger, but everything looked so damn good.
Of course I went with my stand-by favorite of shrimp fajitas, and they didn’t dissappoint. But the true highlight was the guacamole made tableside. Seriously, do not skip it.
Rito’s isn’t fancy. But it’s authentic, fresh, and delicious. Their service is incredibly friendly too. I’m not certain if they take reservations, but they are opening a second location in Buffalo Grove sometime this month.
Need a Cinco de Mayo spot closer the city? Check out another favorite, Nuevo Leon!
