Shop Small Day 230: rQ! Barbecue

A gorgeous fall-weather day seemed to call for a bbq lunch. Though we were tempted to head to our recent favorite, Sharkos, I heard there’s a new spot that recently opened. So after hockey practice, my hungry son and I headed to rQ! Barbeque.

Since sports practices bring us to this side of town often, it’s great to finally have a “small” option for lunch or dinner. We’ll definitely have to go back anyway, there were far too many items on the menu we didn’t get to try!

My son and I both chose pulled pork: he picked the Sweetness sauce & I opted for the Firebug (mild).

The mac n’ cheese side was a perfect portion and although creamy & homemade, it wasn’t too heavy and leave me too full for my sandwich. My son’s side of baked beans was full of huge pieces of pork.

I wish we would’ve visited with more people so we could try their wraps, salads, and sweet potato chips…next time!

Owners Ron & Joann Rupp moved here from Kansas City, so I guess you could say barbecue is in their blood. Though this is their first location, they definitely have plans to bring rQ! to more towns.

In addition to catering, they also offer free delivery within a 3-mile radius- love that! I also like the kid’s meals (I’d seriously buy the plates if my kids were little!). They come with a protein (pulled pork or pulled chicken, not sure if the turkey or salmon are included), a drink, a side, and a dessert (fruit, frozen yogurt, or cookie- a local bakery for the cookie would be a nice touch instead of a packaged cookie, though).

What’s bbq without a beer, right? You can get that too! I didn’t have one today, but they had some unique craft beers in the case.

rQ! Barbecue also has several gluten-free options.

I have to say, I love seeing a small-business restaurant amidst too many chain stores.

Head there with the family, or meet some friends to watch the big game. There’s something for everyone.
