One of my absolute favorite markets opens this Saturday! Romantic Homes Magazine even rates it as one of America’s best flea markets for the “prettiest finds.” Unfortunately, I won’t be able to make it this month, but I wanted to make sure you know all about it. If you’ve waited until the last minute to pick up a Mother’s Day gift- or you just want an adventure- make sure you get yourself to the 3 French Hens Market.
Don’t let “flea market” fool you. This isn’t tube socks and knock-off purses- it’s more like a Parisian market meets Morris, Illinois. Set along the I&M Canal, you’ll find antiques, hand-crafted pieces, baked goods, produce, and flowers.
According to their facebook page today, there are 114 vendors participating in the May 11th market. I participated last year with my company, and I’m hoping to find a date with no conflicts so I can do it again! You will find some of my favorites though: Blackbirds Bowl and Annie’s Gourmet.
Of course, you’ll only be steps away from Lola’s & Gigi’s, Vintage, and a short walk from incredible cinnamon bread!
So, how did the name 3 French Hens originate? By three women determined to develop a French market close to home. They knew amazing treasures & artists could be found nearby, and if they created it, people would come…and they do! Though one of the original “hens” is no longer part of the market, Monica and Traci continue to grow each market (2nd Saturday, May-Oct.) bigger and better than the previous month. I hate missing the first one of the season!
If you go, check out Scissor Sisters and the Hen House for me- I’m intrigued by their names! What do you look for in a great market?
