Day 54: Twist in Chicago

UPDATE (9-29-13): After 9 years, Twist will close its doors on September 30th. We hate to see you go- thanks for all of the delicious, unforgettable meals!

What’s a day in Chicago without bacon-wrapped dates, garlic potato salad, and a glass of Sangria?  Sounds like a perfect meal to me!  But that is just the beginning.  If you’re in the Wrigleyville area, Twist in Chicago tapas cafe should be your stop for dinner.
Truth be told, we often end up a Twist even when we aren’t already in the city.  A craving for cavatappi mac n’ cheese with bacon, red pepper and Monterey Jack has resulted in several last minute drives from the ‘burbs to the city for dinner.

Yes, Twist has some delicious familiar tapas: baked goat cheese, paella, and garlic potato salad. But, you don’t want to miss their outstanding “Twisted Tapas“. What’s a twisted tapas you ask? Seriously amazing international fusion flavors served tapas style. For example? Cavatappi & bacon mac n’ cheese, jalapeño gnocchi, and black bean cakes with avocado & spicy chipotle mayo. Yum.
Even though you’ll find bacon-wrapped dates on other tapas menus, none can compare to those at Twist in Chicago. We always take an extra order home, but it’s a long ride back to the ‘burbs and they’ve never actually made it all the way back to the house! Seriously, my daughter has even written school papers about their bacon-wrapped dates.

Twist is only 1/4 mile from Wrigley Field, so you can walk off the pitcher(s) of sangria and blue cheese crusted beef tenderloin. There isn’t a ton of seating at Twist, so expect a wait. On gorgeous days, try to score one of their al fresco patio tables.

Let me know what your favorite dish is, and tell owner Chris that we’ll be back for more bacon-wrapped dates soon!
