Happy 4th of July!
I have been living in Chicago now for almost 11 years and I am still so proud of my city, my home. A few weeks ago the Paris Opera Ballet came to Chicago to dance at the Harris Theater. The Paris Opera is where I got my training and where I grew up as a young ballet dancer to become the dancer I am today. I gave and invested almost ten years of my life to the Paris Opera School, which gave me most of my ballet foundation.
When the company came to Chicago at the end of June, I realized that Chicago has finally turned a page for a new chapter on culture. It was a very emotional thing for me to see my old childhood friends today leading the Paris Opera Ballet. Night after night they delivered to Chicago, and Chicago was completely receptive to the French company. Over 12,000 people showed up to see them perform on live screen in Grant Park. I was so very proud of Chicagoans willing to open up to art and dance…the city is definitely maturing with their organization and gathering for cultural events.
The future of the development of arts in Chicago is bright with the help of our city Mayor Rham Emanuel, as well as all the large companies that are attaching their names to dance institutions. Thank you to all the wonderful companies supporting the Joffrey….Abbott fund , N.I.B Foundation, Chicago Center for Orthopedics at weiss, A
I joined the Joffrey in 2002. Chicago became my home the moment I took my very first steps I took on Illinois ground. I am so proud of what this city has become, what it is, and what it has the potential to be.
Happy 4th of July everyone!
