Lean and Green: The Daily Challenge

Everyone needs more vegetables in their lives. But, it’s not always that easy to down the green stuff, especially if you are on a budget, in a hurry, or generally just carry a disdain for all things vegetable related.

As a rule, it’s important to eat the colors of the rainbow in produce (no, skittles don’t count). This may seem impossible, but if you arm yourselves with the right tools, you can stay full, healthy, and get lean in no time.

Eating veggies is not about limiting your intake – it’s about increasing it. On top of this, a tough workout can work wonders for your vitamin packed belly.

It’s a common misconception that if you are just a plant eater, you can’t build lean muscle. My husband and I would like to squash that rule. Why? We are living proof that this lifestyle works for men and women, regardless of activity level.

Everyday, we eat plants – lots of them. Beans, nuts, seeds and grains as well. No meat. No dairy. Excruciating workouts that leave us full of energy and with a clear head to tend to our days.

Success comes with small daily achievements. Your task for the day? Go green to get lean (yes, cheesy, but rhyming helps you remember!). Like chips? Try raw bell peppers, carrots, and celery. Like soups? Take the leftover veggies in your fridge, heat them in a pot and then blend them with some spices. Like salads? Toss every veggie/fruit you can into a giant salad for the week.

For today, start with an easy smoothie, blended at home. Choose from the following:

The list goes on. Look around your kitchen. What veggies and fruits can you toss together to slug down? Drinking smoothies or green juices is one of the easiest and fastest ways to get tons of fiber and antioxidants. Don’t like the taste?

Plug your nose and chug. It’s the healthiest 30 seconds you’ll have today.

So, go make a smoothie. And go do some burpees.
