Singers Anita Baker & Jill Scott Perform in Chicago Summer Concerts

R&B Singers Jill Scott and Anita Baker will perform in Chicago summer concerts

R&B Singers Jill Scott and Anita Baker

Two of the music industry’s most sultriest soul singers will be in Chicago July 13,  eight time Grammy Award winning singer Anita Baker and the neo-soul hipster and Grammy nominated R&B vocalist Jill Scott.

Fans of both Baker and Scott will have to decide between one of two summer concerts since both songstresses will be performing on the same day but at two different venues. Baker will be at the Ravinia in Highland Park and Scott at the Taste Of Chicago at the Petrillo Music Shell pavilion.

Baker and Scott are both well known to have a well rehearsed orchestra band that includes an ensemble of horns, background singers, keyboardists and percussion, and both Baker and Scott can bellow out a string of memorable hits for the entire evening.

The City Of Chicago invited Jill Scott to headline the Taste Of Chicago, the city’s biggest summer concert event, where tickets will sell for $25 for reserved tickets, with free admission for lawn seating.

Jill Scott is coming into light as a mature R&B vocalist who excelled most with slower, sensual ballads such as “Slowly, Surely,” “I’m Not Afraid,” and “My Love”.  She’s also versatile enough to pack plenty of punch with anthems of pride and self-empowerment with her hit songs “Golden,” “Family Reunion,” and “Hate on Me”.

Scott’s newest single “Blessed’ released last year kicked off her latest album “The Light Of The Sun”.   Her Taste Of Chicago appearance will headline an evening that will offer a soiree of R&B music and Jamaican gospel funk, as reggae soul artist Maxi Priest joins her as part of the musical lineup.

For Anita Baker, her stage will be set at the Ravinia Pavilion located in Highland Park. Baker will be more than 40 miles away from Jill Scott that same evening, where she’ll perform outdoors as well, at a concert venue that provides up to 3,200 seats.

Baker’s hit roster goes back to her classic 1986 album “Rapture”, which was followed by her commercial success with subsequent albums “Giving You the Best I Got,” “Compositions,” “Rhythm of Love” and “My Everything.”

Her latest venture is a beautiful rendition of recording artist Tyrese’s’ “Lately”, which hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B chart and sat atop the Jazz chart for five consecutive weeks.

“Lately” was released in 2012 and is part of Baker’s latest album “Only Forever”.  It was nominated for a Grammy Award for “Best Traditional R&B Performance”, making it Baker’s 16th Grammy nomination.

Whichever concert you choose, the evening promises to be a unique musical experience as Anita Baker and Jill Scott serenade to thousands of fans during a memorable summer evening in Chicago.
