The Losing In Winning at All Costs

I keep wondering why people I typically consider reasonably intelligent, if not gifted, and reasonably sensible continue to act as if they are in a dark corridor with no lights when it comes to the current President of the United States. I now understand. It’s the art of the deal. I owned and operated a... Read more »

We May Be Blaming the Wrong Guy

We’re all stuck in a maze and none of us have any idea which door gets us out. But, two things are certain. The guy who might have kept us out of this jungle didn’t. The other guy likes it just where we are. It’s worth remembering that all of us knew nearly a year... Read more »

How America Lost Its Soul

We’re not the same. We’re not as good as we used to be. America should be ashamed. But, the point of this essay is not to denigrate as much as it is to ponder what can be done. First, we have to understand how we got here. Then, we can try to figure out how to... Read more »

Oh, Please Let Trump Shut Down the Government!

Donald Trump is threatening to force the government to shut down if he doesn’t get the funding to build his godforsaken wall. Great. Let him. It’s the best thing that could happen. Look, this guy is a bully. You know it. I know it. He’s not overturning Obama-era policies because he believes in anything in... Read more »

Finding the Right Home in Chicago

While we enjoyed living in a downtown condominium, we’ve found living in a single family home in the city to be much more suitable. You may find this to be so, as well. Three years ago my wife and I moved back to Chicago from northern California (yes, “northern,” as in Humboldt County, which is... Read more »

When Personal Development No Longer Helps Lost "Soles"

I have to admit, this has begun to bother me. No, not Trump. He just makes me feel ashamed. Not Carpet-Bombing Cruz. He just scares me. Not Socialist Bernie. I can’t imagine him being successful as President. I hope I’m wrong. Not Hillary. It’s the people who constantly trash her that bother me more, sometimes... Read more »

Bernie Sanders, I Don't Trust You

As much as I love and respect Sarah Silverman, and thought her video in support of Bernie Sanders was tremendous, I have an issue with Bernie. He’s yet to show anything in support of other Democratic candidates. And, he and his campaign chairman spend as much time trying to tear Hillary Clinton down as they... Read more »

Say Hey, Willie and Good Riddance, I Hope, Adam LaRoche

I stopped watching the White Sox at some point last year. Part of it was because the Cubs were so good in comparison, and so much more fun to watch. The Sox were a disaster. Boring. Losers. And the epitome of that lousy play and lack of personality was Adam LaRoche. Funny, I was going... Read more »

Stop Buying What Drumpf is Selling

Lots of thoughts recently, and life flows quickly past. There is always some great idea for a post, some jewel that I want to share. Unfortunately, it’s very difficult to post something from the shower. Might ruin an iPad. But, speaking of which, I get the whole thing about the criticism of Apple not trying... Read more »

Born in Chicago on the South Side, grew up and wound up raising our three daughters on the North Shore, moved to remote Northern California for ten years, and returned to the South Loop in 2014. Apparently, I didn't get very far. Still own a packaging business that specializes in manufacturing board games; the company is more than eighty years old, founded by my grandfather in Chicago. But, I got my BA in Journalism and somehow was able to utilize that in hosting a Beatles radio show on a small market radio station in Eureka, CA for 12 years. I never switched my allegiance from Chicago sports teams, and don't think poorly of me for being a fan of both baseball teams (they are both from our town, People!!). Love the Hawks, was a season ticket holder during all the MJ years, and (gulp) pull for the Bears. I love our city's restaurants, all the great cultural opportunities, being outside, and going to the wonderful museums. I'm very proud of this city, and am absolutely thrilled to be living downtown in the city I call home. Oh, and I am pretty opinionated about news and politics. I hope you don't mind.
