eBay announced that a 1997 Metal Universe Precious Metal Gems card featuring Michael Jordan recently sold for a site-record $350,100.
“In the world of trading cards this is a ‘true holy grail’ caliber asset, said Brent Huigens, CEO and Owner of PWCC who sold the card on eBay. “Most advanced investors have never seen one before and this was the first copy we’ve handled in 20 years. Arguably the most recognized and revered modern trading card in the world.”
In the weeks leading up to NBA All-Star Weekend, sales for Jordan trading cards and memorabilia generated more than $3 million dollars on eBay.
Six Jordan cards have previously been sold on eBay for more than $90,000 — Michael Jordan/LeBron James rare card ($300,000), Six MJG Michael Jordan trading cards ($250,000), 1986 Fleer Michael Jordan #57 Pristine trading card ($150,000), 1997-98 Precious Metal Gems RED Michael Jordan trading card ($99,999.20), 2003-04 Black Diamond 24-Karat Michael Jordan autographed trading card ($95,000.20) and 1997 Michael Jordan autographed trading card ($94,630).
