ChicagoNow is a group of bloggers from all sorts of different backgrounds. One thing that helps tie them all together? Chicago.
With so much collective experience with the city, we’ve decided to put that knowledge to use by posing some of the oldest and most popular questions about Chicago to the group.
Where can you get the best pizza in Chicago?
“Coalfire”. — Melissa Bulicek, Oh, Life!
“Chicago’s Pizza. Very good gluten free options, too.” — Michelle Cahill, Mindful Chicago
“Pete’s Pizza on Western – thin crust, spinach and potato”. — Lea Grover, Becoming SuperMommy
“Pizzeria Via Stato or Quartino”. — Holly, Running With A Book Cart
“Giordano’s”. — Morgan Katz, Musings of a Cancer Memoirist
“Piece has the best pizza I’ve had in Chicago, and I’m originally a New Yorker, so I know pizza, YOU ALL don’t know pizza, I (emphasis on I) know pizza, and this is the pizza, it’s thin crust, it’s delicious, go eat it”. — Brian Kremen, ConFIdences
“PEAQUODS. no question.” — Katy McDermott Maher, I Got a Dumpster Family!
“Lou Malnati’s.” — Judy Marcus, Opinionated Woman
“Pequod’s. Hands down.” — Mary Tyler Mom
“For thick, I will always be team Giordano’s. Their stuffed pizza became my reference implementation of Chicago pie when I was a kid, and no food makes me happier than a cheesy mouthful of their pizza, even today. For thin, I am right with Lea Grover about Pete’s Pizza on Western. There’s no such thing as leftover Pete’s, when I am around, because it’s so delicious that I can’t stop eating it…and, unlike deep dish or stuffed pie, it’s not so heavy that I eventually have to cry uncle.” — Nicolle Neulist, Picks & Ponderings
“I’m obviously partial to Legno Chicago’s wood fired pizza!” — Lucy Rendler-Kaplan, Small Girl, Big City
“Pizza Cucina in Oswego! Sorry all you who live in the city limits of Chicago, but if we are talking Chicagoland, it is one of the best pizzas I have ever had.” — Meggan Sommerville, Trans Girl at the Cross
“We are not big pizza fans, but what we do like quite a bit are the pizzettas at Tiny Lounge. They generally have a choice of 3 on the menu with very unconventional toppings. They are thin, crisp, savory, and delicious, like this one: swiss, spicy salami, brie, topped with housemade pear butter & fried shallots. They will have pizzetta specials from time to time, too. It’s the only pizza-like dish we will order anywhere, unless we go to a pizza joint because others in the family, or friends, want to go. We don’t hate pizza. We always enjoy ourselves when we join others at a pizza restaurant. It’s just that we’d rather go somewhere else and order something else, unless it’s pizzetta at Tiny!” — Floyd Sullivan, Waiting4Cubs
