Why: Everyone has a post that gets right down to their marrow. I could be wrong but it felt like this was that one for Amy, whose bravery for writing about such a difficult topic as eating disorders I applaud and respect.
Second place: Cook’s County: Urban Stories of Food and Life: Metal never sounded so sweet: cochlear implants go bilateral at our house
Why: This story was an education into how cochlear implants work. For that alone, it’s worthwhile. So on a practical level, you learn about what they are. On an emotional level, you see how patience and love go a long way towards helping achieve a wonderful outcome.

Why: I have no idea what it’s like to go through the final hours of a marriage, but I feel like I have some idea now. There’s sadness in this post but much more hope and humor. The section that concluded with the line, “Also, it was actually Buchanan” was so good I felt like cheering.
