October Sweaters

October Sweaters

When the frost is on the pumpkins

and ghosts and monsters give you frights

You’re going to need a sweater

to keep you warm on spooky nights.

Maybe someone made it for you, sweating in July,

or you found it in a thrift shop, when you went in days gone by.

A bonus if it’s tweedy, if it has pockets and a hood

But even if it doesn’t, the colors feel so good.

Go look in your boxes, get it out and wear it soon.

You could even put it on tonight, walking under the Hunter’s Moon!

Correction—While we haven’t had temperatures below freezing yet this season, cooler days and nights are coming.

Tonight, the full Hunter’s Moon may be covered by clouds and a chance of rain, but who knows–there may be a break in the clouds…

  • What a lovely post! I'm looking forward to my extra-long, jacket-type sweater that's gray with white stripes. So far, it's cozy just to look at, but I know it will be cozy to wear soon.

  • Thanks so much for reading! Yes, it's almost time for these wonderful favorite sweaters. I have an olive-y one with a hood that I wore this morning to walk to the Jewel. Temps in the 50's tomorrow!

  • I assume you didn't subcontract this out to AW.
I went out about 1 p.m. in a short sleeve shirt, and it felt brisk but good. According to nonstop Greg Dutra, I won't be able to do so Saturday.

Thanks so much for reading, Jack! I'm humbled that my modest attempt reminded you of the Master.
Saturday was sure a fine fall day, more colors in the leaves, and that clear blue sky. Yes, I was wearing one of my October sweaters.
    Sunday---don't forget your umbrella!

  • A nice song to fall. I have been waiting to put on a soft sweater since the leaves began changing. Now I can do so, although today, Sunday, a waterproof jacket goes over it.

  • In reply to jnorto:

Greetings, jnorto. Thank you so much for reading! Yes, it's time for the fall sweaters. The past full moon is visible in the mornings, too, now.
Well, not today. It's sweaters and waterproof jackets for Sunday!

  • Sorry I missed this when you posted, WG.

In your hat, put a feather
    For rhyming the weather.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, AW. Thanks so much for reading!
I do love the October sweaters--you can wear them in November, too...
