This post is part of the monthly Blogapalooza on ChicagoNow, in which we are given one hour to write about a topic. This month’s topic is–
Write about a character or scene in a movie or book that affected you in some way.
I cannot explain what it is about Godzilla that I love so. It was love at first sight, though, on late-night TV.
Was it the clumsy lumbering, the building smashing, the curiosity over an elevated train?
Was it the hordes of people screaming as they ran away?
I felt sympathy for him. I could relate to his bewilderment. I felt I understood his pain.
And his charms were not lost on me, either. The breath of a fire-breathing dragon! What girl doesn’t dream of dragonflight? Well, I used to, until I discovered science-fiction, and teleportation and flying cars replaced the dragons of my earlier dreams.
Godzilla couldn’t fly. but Mothra could. and Gamera. I loved them all, and still do. But Godzilla is my first love.
I still dream of the volcanoes on Monster Island….
Correction–Actually, Godzilla did fly, once–in one movie, Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster. This is a movie I haven’t seen, but I hope to remedy that, soon…
