Highlighted Reading for The week of 4/18 to 4/22

There readings taking place this week that I feel need to be highlighted. The first takes place tonight (4/19) at The Hideout. Write Club is similar in some ways to the Literary Death Match, but changes the rules a bit. Write Club goes 3 bouts, 2 opposing writers/2 opposing ideas, 7 minutes apiece and allows the audience picks a winner. All proceeds from the event go to charities of winners’ choosing. Tonight is Write Club 15 and features the following NORTH (Ali Weiss) vs. SOUTH (Mason Johnson), GUTS (Jason Economus) vs. GLORY (Ian Belknap), and BROTHER (Jeff Miller) against BROTHER (Matt Miller).

Also taking place tonight is a mega poetry reading taking place at 1622 S Allport St. The reading features the heart of the poetry movement in town with writers like James Payne,Cassandra Troyan, Matt Whispers and other.

On Thursday (4/21) we have the P. Fanatics Reading Series with an event called Hair! The series is hosted by Mason Johnson and will feature writers like Mary Hamilton, Mairead Case, Dan Shapiro and other elaborating on the great mystery of Hair. This reading will be held at Moe’s Tavern at 7pm.

The final reading I would like to highlight is Patrick Sommerville’s “Breaking Protocol” Reading as part of the Silver Tongue Reading Series on Friday (4/22) at Quincy Wong Center (623 S Wabash). The reading breaking protocol by not revealing any other details for the event.

It is a busy week for the written word in Chicago so get out there and enjoy it.
