The Awful Possibilities @ The Whistler

Tonight’s event at The Whistler is to celebrate the latest Featherproof books release, The Awful Possibilities by Christian TeBordo. You can read a sample from the book here. However, I want to talk a little about another writer reading tonight. The name Jeff Parker, when spoken in Chicago, has a very distinct meaning, but this Jeff Parker is not Chicago’s Jeff Parker. I am talking about the Jeff Parker that grew up in Tallahassee and is currently a faculty member at the University of Toronto. He is the author of the novel Ovenman and on April 20th release a new collection of short stories called The Taste of Penny.

Parker’s stories are tight, gritty, and filled with wildly dark images. Taste of Penny ranges in themes from killing birds with hammers, stalking ex-girlfriends, Russian double agents, and roadkill. The collection was released through Dzanc Books and Jeff is defiantly worth checking out tonight along with Christian TeBordo, Lindsay Hunter, Adam Levin, and the incredible Tim Kinsella.
