Northwestern Bowl Game Preview

Northwestern Bowl Game Preview
This wasn’t they had in mind when this college football preseason began. Texas A&M and Northwestern had the talent and expectations for much more than a 6-6 record, and a berth in the Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas. Last year, it was just the Texas Bowl so congrats to the marketing department on lining... Read more »

Complete Bowl History of Northwestern: 1-8 Overall
The beauty of history is that it tells us where we’ve been in order to figure out where we’re going. But before we get to previewing Northwestern vs. Texas A&M in the Meineke Bowl of Texas, let’s look back at where NU has been in the postseason. Well, it started nice…in 1949. But much more... Northwestern Wildcats, Once 2-5, Now Bowl Eligible at 6-5
For this report, I turn it over to Jamie Arkin, my Northwestern beat writer at The Sports Bank. Four weeks ago, Northwestern had hit rock bottom. The ‘Cats were 2-5 after a five-game losing streak – blowing substantial leads in several of those games – and were on the verge of a losing record, which... Read more »

Northwestern Shocks Top 10 Nebraska on The Road 28-25
For this one, I turn to my Northwestern beat reporter at TSB- Jamie Arkin Physical and low scoring – it was the complete opposite of the game everyone expected to see. Northwestern and Nebraska have high-powered offenses, and Northwestern has constantly underperformed on defense. But, to the disbelief of most, Northwestern outplayed the physical Cornhuskers,... A.J. Jenkins: Illini MVP, Big 10 Best WR

A.J. Jenkins: Illini MVP, Big 10 Best WR
Earlier this college football season, University of Illinois senior wide receiver A.J. Jenkins made some comments that proclaimed himself the best wide receiver in the Big Ten. He has since backed off from those remarks, and now maintains a more standard, PR-friendly, humble and some could say vanilla manner in his on-the-record comments to the... Read more »

Northwestern in Season Defining Game vs Michigan Tonight

Northwestern in Season Defining Game vs Michigan Tonight
Four games into the season, it’s difficult to describe a game as must-win, particularly when you’re talking about Northwestern, and especially when the opponent is #12 Michigan. The Wolverines are 5-0 on the season, and have impressed thus far. The ‘Cats on the other hand, are in a two-losses-in-a-row slippery slope. Lose to Michigan, and... Read more »

Illini Nip Cats on Final Play: Now Chicago's True Big Ten Team?
It was a week where one school’s marketing slogan became a motivational rallying cry for the other school in the state. Quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase scored a 1-yard touchdown... Read more »

#22 Illinois vs. Northwestern: Brutally Honest Game Preview

#22 Illinois vs. Northwestern: Brutally Honest Game Preview
Big Ten conference play begins with the annual in-state rivalry game between the Northwestern Wildcats and Illinois Fighting Illini. It does feel a little weird not having this game played on the last week of the season, when all the other intrastate, intra-region bloodfeud games are held.  But last year it was such a special... All-Big 10, NU QB Dan Persa Completes Comeback Trail; (Video)

A couple weeks ago, the Northwestern Wildcats launched "PersaStrong," a media campaign to promoting senior quarterback Dan Persa as a 2011 Heisman Trophy candidate. Persa enters this season after being named the All-Big Ten first-team quarterback in 2010, a season in which he broke the Big Ten's all-time record for completion percentage with a 73.5 mark. He missed the last three games due to a ruptured Achilles, but still had a 5 touchdowns, threw just four interceptions and ran for another nine scores. He is healthy and ready to go for training camp. Today was NU Media Day; and Persa spoke about a whole host of topics. Watch the video after the jump...
