Have a happy holiday with these Chicago events

Christmas is upon us, and so is spending massive amounts of time with family. Whether you’re looking for a quick holiday distraction or you’re a Jewish Chicagoan with nothing to do over the next few days, here are a few Christmas Eve and Christmas Day events around our fair city.

Need a little help with your zen breathing before spending two whole days with family? The South Loop Whole Foods is hosting T’ai Chi with Lincoln Park Village this morning, a class to learn how to use breathing and gentle movement to increase your energy, flexibility and muscle strength.

I’m sure I sound like a broker record, but how fun would it be to spend Christmas Eve ice skating at the Millennium Park ice rink? After you’re done, Park Grill is right next door with 50 percent off wine bottles and a your favorite holiday dishes.

You may not know this, but Christmas Eve is a huge party night for Chicago’s Jewish population. Popular venues around the city host all sorts of events. The famous annual Matzo Bash takes place at Enclave, offering a cocktail reception, discounts on VIP tables and bottle service, dancing and free admission to the afterparty at Cuvee. Stout Barrel House and Gallery puts on Stoutmas Eve – The Chosen Party, with a cocktail reception, pass appetizers, DJ and 50 percent off menu items. Hub 51 hosts its annual Hubukkah with dancing and free chicken eggrolls.

On Christmas Day, the Fairmont’s aria restaurant brings a famous Jewish tradition to the masses. Check out Chinese Dinner and a Movie at aria restaurant, a special on family-style gourmet Chinese food and tickets to a movie at AMC.

Never to miss a holiday, the Kit Kat Lounge has special Christmas Eve and Christmas day activities. Enjoy a pre-fixed meal of turkey, stuffing, cranberries and a pumpkin tart. A special tribute to the fabulous Mae West will take place on Christmas night, featuring the lady’s favorite chicken and waffles. Mae West films will play on the restaurant’s many screens. Bring in canned goods to both events and you’ll get 50 percent off your total bill.
