Don't waste what's left of summer! Enjoy these Labor Day events.

I hate Labor Day. Sure, the long weekend is awesome, but that means the end of summer. Time to get in those last few weeks of Chicago activities. Strangely, there isn’t a ton going on this weekend – I guess the magic event people figure everyone’s barbecuing – but here are a few highlights.

I know I haven’t looked favorably on those typical Chicago street festivals, but now that they’re winding down I’m going to take all that I can get. Old Town is celebrating the end of the summer with Crush in Old Town. Food, music, vendors, etc.

Don’t waste your last chances to stuff you face this summer, and the Taste of Polonia will help you do just that. This indoor/outdoor festival features the best of Polish foods, music and Polish shopping.

Bangers & Lace will host its second annual hot dog eating contest on Monday. It’s pretty simple: eat the most hot dogs and win a prize. The grand prize is two Bears tickets. While I would never participate in an event like this, I think they’re pretty fun to watch.

Get your artsy/handmade/eco-friendly on at Ravenswood Remix on Saturday and Sunday. Local artists will display a variety of wares featuring re-purposed and found materials. You can also take workshops on how you can be more eco-friendly.

Spend Labor Day on a fun bike ride through the historic Pullman neighborhood. It’s a 30-mile ride, so it’s not for lightweights. You actually head into Indiana and return to the Pullman clock tower for lunch and music. Click here to register.

Happy Labor Day!
