I have an incredible dilemma this weekend: all of my favorite summer festivals take place in the next two days, and the only time I’m free is after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. Therefore, you’re going to have to visit my favorites for me.
First on my list is the greatest festival to take place all year: The Printer’s Row List Fest. As you can probably deduce from my many posts, I’m kind of a book worm. This is a book lover’s paradise. Bring cash and a bunch of bags and prepare to vastly expand your library. The atmosphere is so much fun, and there’s reading material for everyone – mainstream books, ebooks, comic books, alternative books, fiction, non-fiction, biographies, cookbooks, everything.
Forget the Naperville Ribfest; you must check out Ribfest Chicago. This free event features all of the best rib spots in town, as well as some very delicious fare. My favorite: deep fried Snickers Bars. Holy crap it’s delicious. The ribs are tasty too.
There are a ton of art fairs throughout the summer, but none of them tops the Old Town Art Fair. The best of the best artists have booths in this block after block collection of amazing works. I wish it wasn’t so expensive, but then again I get annoyed at how much paintings at Bed Bath & Beyond cost, so don’t listen to me.
The World Naked Bike Ride – yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like – takes place on Saturday night before sundown. I can’t tell you where because then I’d have to kill you. Actually, I don’t know. Nobody does. They announce the location the morning of the event, and if you want to be notified then join the email list.
I was driving my scooter down Stockton last year, and stumbled upon a new food festival that was shockingly awesome. Better Homes & Gardens and Weber Grill (when I saw these two corporate brands, I was skeptical) have put together Chill & Grill. Some of the city’s best restaurants get together in a Taste of Chicago-like atmosphere to serve amazing culinary creations. Check out the list. Last year I had cantaloupe gelato and a goat sloppy joe. Yum.
